Hogan Edge (older version) Vs. Callaway Apex '21

here goes...

Decent iron striker with room for improvement/ to grow... Currently playing ping Eye 2 BeCu 4-LW.  high handicap but really all due to Tee box and putting issues, Irons and wedges are my saving grace...

Have some extra cash so looking to get some "modern clubs" to add to the rotation. Assume tech advancements and some lower lofts will help.

I went for a fitting and the Callaway Apex 21 and Mizuno JPX 921 HM were the 2 i hit the best. Went for the HM based on price but really didnt care for them purely on aesthetics alone. Liked the Feel, shots and look of the Apex 21...

Grabbed a ben Hogan Edge thru their demo program and liked it as well (Feel, shots and look).

Cannot make up my mind... Obviously the Edge is much lower in price so that's a thought but any other thoughts personal experiences that may help me decide on which to go with.

Thanks for the help and cant wait to read others thoughts...

-Steve

I won't be much help as I have not hit the '21 Apex yet but have hit the 2018 Edge, PTX Pro and most of the older models from all of the major OEMs. Buddy of mine has a set of the Edges with Recoils in them and they are some of the best irons I've ever hit. The hollow body construction make them otherworldly forgiving and the weaker lofts reduce the chance of getting a low spin flyer. The feel is on par with any forging from the OEM's and my friend's sticks are a full club longer then my own strong lofted Bridgestone J15 DPF. Now I'm sure most of that can be attributed to the different shafts (light weight graphite vs. mid weight steel), but I was still impressed considering the weaker lofts. My only gripes are that the look of the clubs is very blah. There's not very much flash or eye appeal. For that reason I am gravitating towards the PTX Pros. Very similar iron with a smaller profile and a hair less forgiveness. I demoed the PTX Pros in a steel shafts and saw distance more in line with my own gamers. My other complain is that I could not hit a knockdown with the Edges. They wanted to fly high and straight. Flighting was not an option. But again I think this was due to the light weight recoil.

So after demoing a handful of Hogan products I've become a bit of a Hogan fanboy. Really, really good equipment. Just sold a set of Srixon 785s to fund my PTXPro/Edge purchase. And IMO Hogan did a much better job on the V-sole than Srixon. Clubs plow through even the worst lies.

Ok, I'm just rambling now but I hope my blurb may have helped you in some way. Good luck on your purchase.

the hogan apex edge pros that came out in 2004 (iirc) are wonderful clubs. they were my first set of big boy clubs and i thought they were super buttery. went to mp-5's mainly because i needed new shafts and wanted to try blades. but if the new hogans are anything like the old ones i would definitely recommend them. also gorgeous to look at, nice classic design.
