MEMBER REVIEWS: New Bettinardi Studio Stock Putters! See What Members Are Saying!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to post a quick update concerning my ongoing experience with my Bettinardi SS7.

The SS7 is simply a wonderful putter and it has a very firm place in my bag.

I can't say I'm sinking everything - but pretty much every putt I hit has a chance to go in these days. My misses are closer. I'm sinking way more middle distance putts. It has really helped to improve my up and down percentage.

In other words, I can tell a significant positive difference in my performance as a result of this club and the work I have put in to it.

Over the past month or so, I've had several people comment on how strong my putting game is - but only the serious players have ever commented on the putter itself. Bettinardi continues to fly under the radar - but hey, it makes me cooler than all the Scotty folks out there. 😀

At the end of the day, if you like inserts and balk at the $450 price tag - I completely understand. But, if you are a milled putter person and have the money to spend, you'd be a fool not to give Bettinardi a try. Awesome putters!

Man, what the hell happened to all the other reviewers?

I, for one, am still playing my Betti SS7 and loving the thing. It bailed me out Saturday afternoon on a pretty poor ball striking day. Still managed a 73 with 29 putts and I couldn't be happier! My chipping was on point as well, for those wondering.

I am still using the SS28. I put a bigger grip on it and still rolling it. I did a pretty extensive head to head tryout with three other putters and this one came out on top. I am seeing about a 1/2-1 stroke average improvement per round. This came at a great time. I was in a bad slump on the greens and this has helped a lot.

Just wanted to give a bit of an update to this thread and my ongoing play with my Bettinardi SS7. Having been gifted this club and continuing to really enjoy it, I feel an obligation to let you know how things are going. I'm not trying to shill or be a homer or anything. I'm just a guy who got a nice putter for free and has had a ton of fun playing golf with it.

It has been a fun summer. I've made more putts than I can ever recall. Not a ton of crazy, wing-and-a-prayer 40"-ers or anything. It isn't honeymoon magic, I don't think, and I still miss putts, obviously.

But, I've been absolute murder on pretty much everything 8" feet and in. I've sunk a memorable amount of 10-15"-ers. Haven't missed a >3"-er in recent memory. Random strangers have been saying things like "that guy doesn't miss." or "you make everything." It's been noteworthy. My number of saves and up-and-downs has increased significantly. Scores averaging in the 70's and putting has been a big part of that. Birdies haven't been up appreciably (unfortunately) but that was an iron issue and a completely different story.

So, I've been practicing with the SS7 roughly 4 hours a week for 4+ months, now. Through that. I've come to know exactly what to expect from the SS7. The ball rolls the same way off the face every time. It rolls consistently end-over-end. It tracks lines and breaks beautifully. I can't say enough about the face milling and the impact feel it produces.

I've never used a SC or other boutique milled putter before, so I don't know how it might compare with those. But, I can say that no matter how hard I worked, I never got there with an Odyssey. I have no idea why. I would always stand over putts with doubt in my heart. With the SS7 I'm always confident I will hit a decent putt.

So yeah, no club is going to substitute for practice, and there are a lot of fine putters out there, but I'm pretty much sold on Bettinardi at this point. My putter rules.

I’ve struggled on the greens for several years. Was fitted for this putter at Club Champion, but didn’t feel that a face balanced putter was best for me. Went with a putter with more toe hang for my arcing stroke. I was wrong as when the other putter arrived I was very inconsistent and borderline bad with it. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking about the Bettinardi which probably didn’t help my putting any. Decided to buy the Betti about two months ago, and it is firmly in the bag. This is the best putter that I have had for consistently hitting my start line. Was poor on less than 5 footers, but am solid over them now due to my confidence in starting the ball on line. Appreciate the reviews on this site that allowed me the confidence to move forward with the purchase. Have had two Betti 3.0 wedges that I love for a while, and so glad to put this Half Moon Betti in the bag.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to provide another update with my ongoing relationship with my Bettinardi SS7.

It's been a full season, if not quite a full year, and I've definitely been giving this putter a thorough test. I've used it for every round and every practice session save one (more on that to follow).

I've played the Betti on crappy munis, nicer resort courses, sanded greens, punched greens, everything in between, and I exclusively walk and carry. I generally play two to three times a month and practice short game for about 4-6 hours a week - perhaps slightly less on those weeks where I play. I'm also not totally OCD about my equipment - just a reasonable level - i.e. wiping the club clean and using the headcover religiously.

Honestly, I know its not carbon steel or anything, but I was expecting a bit more wear to be evident - especially the face. I can't really tell this thing apart from new:

DSC_0029.JPG.fa7aafd35f4d9ea3169634f50cef8ade.JPG

But...you know that every relationship with a putter is going to hit a rocky patch here and there. And mine came this fall.

Overall, my game has been pretty sharp tee to green and I got some new irons in October, so I've been seeing a lot more birdie opportunities over the past three months. But, I wasn't contending with them very well. I'd put a bunch of pressure on myself to make the putts, then get all bunged up mentally, and end up making poor strokes. That allowed the doubt to creep in, and before you know it, I was missing three footers with regularity. So many lip outs...very frustrating.

But, I couldn't really blame the putter. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it. So, I switched out the stock pistol grip from Bettinardi with my preferred Iomic Mid-Sized:

DSC_0058.JPG.c9f6e495799a04860c47de7281a6b701.JPG

And then had to add some lead tape to the sole to get the balance right again:

DSC_0064.JPG.7167839c21a695303cb006fcb8825088.JPG

But, things still weren't really coming around.

So, I hate to admit it, but I put my old Odyssey White Ice #7 back into play for one practice session and one round. There wasn't any magic there. I hated looking at it. I didn't like how it felt or how the ball reacted off the face. It didn't put the ball in the hole any better.

So, it's gotta be a technique issue. It's amazing how our setup and strokes can get all messed up over time. Focusing on Phil's 25/75 putter stroke is helping me get back in the groove.

Beyond that, I just need to get more comfortable standing over birdie putts. It's always been a weakness.

I think sticking with the Betti and overcoming that mental block is the thing to do. I just love the putter and can't give up on it. And, I believe it's just one more place where this club is truly forcing me to improve my game.

Thought I'd provide more of a long-term, season-over-season update.

The Bettinardi is still in my back, but with some slight changes.  I found that my hands at address were getting behind the ball, mostly due to my set-up, but I felt partially due to how the putter actually looks center-shafted to me.  This was making me push more putts than I wanted and had to be changed.  First tired to switch grips from the Pure putter grip to a Superstroke Traxion Tour and then to a Flatso 1.0.  Seemed to work a little better.

In order to combat some of the set up issues, I switched to left-hand low for the back-half of last season and the start of this one, so it seems to me that my hands are slightly forward at address.  This has greatly improved the strike (and subsequent feel) of the putter overall.

I haven't' missed the strong alignment aids that some of my previous putters had (e.g. Odyssey Indy EXO) that I thought I would.

The reason the putter has stayed in the bag for so long is that it is one of the better feeling putters that I've had.  I wouldn't put it as soft as the 009 Oil Can or Newport Gun Blue that I've had, but certainly better feeling than the Studio Selects that I've tried.

I tried playing with a friend's Anser Sigma 2 the last two rounds of the season, but ended up putting the bettinardi back in the bag.  That one interested me because of the adjustable playing length.

I've been wanting to go to the Bettinardi studio to get a full fitting, but put the plans on hold for a while.  I think that will be my next adventure.

Overall, the headshape took some getting used to, the stock grip wasn't for me (easy solution), and the headcover needed magnets.  Other than that, the playing performance and durability (50 rounds played with ZERO finish issues or scratches) have been extremely impressive.

I have had the SS7 for about three months and the more I use it the better I am putting. I love the shorter wider aspect because it makes me focus on nothing more then hitting the center of the face thus keeping my eyes focused on the ball well after it has left the face and consequently, increasing my accuracy over any other putter to date… Feel and control are amazing. Distance is simply an even and rhythmic same back and through stroke with no forced hit on the ball. Love it and I have tried with no exaggeration every putter out there wanting to love Scotty and the Spider but they simply do not measure up to my Betti.
