1st. field / player adjustable weight woods back in 1965.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this set of laminated woods. I looked up the Patent and sure enough they appear to be the first gold fairway woods that had field adjustable weights. Copper washers, lead inserts pulled and inserted with a screw driver. Unusual shaped woods.

 

1w, 3w, 4w, & 5w laminated wood set: 

1965 Sylvain F. "Steve" Biltz Jr. – Centurion set.

1965 Pat. # D206888 for the first woods that had field adjustable

Weights. Custom made for Jerry Helit. 

Blitz was from Scottsdale, Arizona.

No idea at all but they certainly are unique!

Never heard or seen anything like them before but I absolutely love them.  Very unique and innovative at the time I’m sure.   Really cool set!

Well they are cool looking.

I wish they were from a solid block of wood, but they are only laminated.

The layers are however as good as any I have ever seen. Probably because they are blond and not painted over and remind me of the Ping Zing blond laminated heads with the red inserts.

I wish I had the different weights that they must have come with.

I snatched them locally from Craigslist a few years back with a 1950's MacGregor Tufhorse golf bag, a 2 > 9 iron set of 1954-55 MacGregor Tourney Colokrom Rec. M85's, a Tony Penna CF4000 TP1 double duty wedge and a Spalding Cash-In putter.

Steve is your grand father?

I have looked up the Patent and think the Centurions are about as cool as can be.

I proudly hang them in my Man Cave.

I had heard that he was friends with Karsten Solheim down in Scottsdale, is that true?

Do you know if he used seconds from Ping to reshape to Centurions?

Anything you could tell me would be great.

Following topic as I have a set of Steve Biltz woods that my father had given me many moons ago.  They're not as good of shape that previous poster had pics of, however these were played with by both my Dad & myself decades ago (before technology caught on).  Still have the weights that go with them.
