Can anyone identify these classic irons-Fernquest Johnson Golden Gate irons?

I'll take a stab at it.

 

Got some F&J Tony Lema Golden Gate woods and irons awhile ago. I understand that after Lema died suddenly in 1966 I believe, they rebranded the line without his name. Note it's the same clubhead. 

 

FWIW I put new grips on mine and played them for awhile. If you are into square toes and/or the F&J/Tony Lema/Ken Venturi thing, their clubs are fun to have. I guess they were famous in a small way to golfers in the San Francisco area in the 60's. I have also read that they got their heads from Golfcraft at one time.

 

Not much value any more, but kinda rare and sure fun to have and play!

 

One more thing. Look at the serial number on the ferrule. I assume the first two digits are the year they were built, don't know for sure.

Nice. I have a set of the Golden Gate irons as well. Talk about a square toe, they made the Titleist square toe look round by comparison. https://www.ironfinder.com/Individual-Irons/titleist/tour_model_square_toe-82.htm

 

I wish I had the woods. If I were having a complete custom set of irons built, I'd choose this design.

I like those.  Nice and square in the toe.  Cool ferrules too!
