Senior Golfers Are The BEST Playing Partners!

:D From personal experience and comments which I now hear, I make this statement. When I was a younger man, the most enjoyable rounds of golf that I played were the ones where one or more senior golfers were in my group. When playing with my Sons and their friends or younger players in general, I always hear how much they enjoyed the round. When playing with ladies, young or old, same thing. Facts: From years of playing, we can give good tips without asking for anything more than a smile and a thank you. We don't Ooooh and Aaaah over a great shot, rather we nod and smile with a simple "Well done." If the ladies are young and attractive, they don't have to be constantly wondering, "When is he going to make his move", rather, they enjoy playing a round with men who know how to conduct themselves as gentlemen. One of my Sons told me that the reason this is all true is; The older fellows are not trying to prove how much better they are than the other players, not trying to make a "Conquest", and not seeking Oooohs and Aaaahs, BUT........They are just concentrating on making it through 18 holes and still be able to walk off the course with a little "Spring in their Step".

The most enjoyable round I played last year was with one of our Super Seniors at my club. He still plays tourneys and it was awesome to see this guy bunt it around the course for a smooth 1 over par. He missed in all the right places, and got up and down 5 out of the 7 greens he missed.

If not for a couple of lip outs on the par 5's he could have shot a smooth 1 under that day.

One of the most memorable rounds I played with was when I walked on and got paired up with a group that included an older gentleman that was over 80 and walked. My first thought was "Oh man, this is gonna be a long round". I was eating my words before the first hole was finished. Length-wise, he wasn't long, which is understandable given his age. His drives were consistently 150 yards. But he was as consistent a player as I've ever seen.

Pretty much on par 4's, he'd hit driver, fairway wood, short iron, 1 putt. That was pretty much the pattern the whole round and he ended up shooting 81, I believe. After playing with him, it definitely affected my perception on playing with elder people. On top of that, he was genuinely a pleasure to play with.

A recent round that stands out to me is an early round last year with a married couple in their late 50s/early 60s who obviously frequently golfed together and played well too. We played the back nine twice together as a threesome to get in our 18 holes. They were not only good company, but you could sense how much they enjoyed playing together and how much they were enjoying the day. This is what golf ia all about. For whatever reason, this sentiment rubbed off onto me. I thoroughly enjoyed their company and my round, as I shot a 42 on the first 9 holes and then a 36 the second time around for a 78. I hadn't played this well in years. I copied the scorecard for future reference and sentimental value. Go Golf!
