The Frog - Atlanta/Villa Rica

I don't play out there very much anymore, and usually only when our greens are punched or with a particular friend that really enjoys the layout, but I just received an email notification that the club will be closed M-F through February. Granted, the weather will likely be chilly (and we're getting ice/snow today) but this seems odd. Anyone know anything?

Not sure, but sad that the place never became what it was supposed to be. I am honestly surprised it is still open. Way back before I joined a club whenever my friend would come into town our go-to place was White Columns. Once that went private The Frog became our staple. Such a fun layout and used to be in great shape. When we were closed at the start of Covid our group went out and played it again. It was empty and soggy and the development around it seemed like it has not had a house built in 15 years.

Hope it stays open.

There is a bunch of new residential construction there so likely to increase traffic on the course. I've always wondered how they made enough money to stay open because its always sparse when I've played there. Love it though. I heard something about lack of funding as the reason for the weekday closure, but I have no idea. The bunkers were bad last time I played there, not much sand, not maintained.

Does anyone know what is going on at that Frog? I played there this weekend and I estimate that 35% of the acreage that comprises the putting greens was goosegrass/crabgrass. A couple of the greens looked like they were at least 50% goosegrass/crabgrass. Also, it looks like they have gone back to not maintaining the bunkers. A few years ago the bunkers were atrocious, then they did some work to move them from atrocious to awful, but now the bunkers seem to trending back to the atrocious level.

I'd hope the recent golf boom and recent housing developments by the course would have pumped some money into the course, but after this past weekend I'm a bit concerned about this course's future.
