Advice on suitable kit

Have been playing golf for >30 years, currently a 7.6 Index at a good club in the UK. Currently about 100 mph driver and 85mph 7 iron. Years ago had a cut but worked it out so well (I blame Bernhard Langer) I now have an inside approach (6 degrees) and a closing face. Bad shot therefore a low smothered hook. Flight the ball low at the best of times. Play about once a week and one range session. Working on taking the club away slower and in front of me with a 3/4 swing (less loose). 

 

In the market for a driver and set of irons.

 

Current driver Mavrik 10.5 with Smoke 70g stiff. Got a heavier shaft to slow down a quickish transition, which it has done a bit. 

 

Fairway: TSi2 16.5, Tensei Blue 75g S

 

Irons: Srixon Z585 5-7, Z785 8-PW, Nippon 980GH stiff. 

 

Considering a Mizuno 220Z or a TSi2 or 3 driver, and Mizuno 223 or 5 (or a mix) irons with $-Taper lite (if I can get them).

 

Any suggestions/recommendations from the collective? Let's take the 'get a load of lessons' as read.

Just my inflationary 2 cents.

 

I don’t think that you will likely see any significant performance gains from changing irons.

 

Your driver is draw biased. Combined with your swing pattern, you have had to both unnecessarily add loft and apply a “bandaid shaft”. It now requires you to produce a different swing from the rest of your bag, which is chaotic. The Smoke Black is also likely robbing you of distance.

 

Just an idea.

 

 

It’s on sale, is slightly fade biased, and has a shaft that will closely match yours in feel and flex.

I would think I good fitting at a top quality facility would show if new equipment can really better what you have already. Or try to get use of a launch monitor and access if your launch conditions with what you have are optimum.
