Young Executive Memberships near Boston

I’m moving to Boston this summer and looking at potentially joining a club with an affordable junior executive membership where I can play a quick morning 9 before work, go to the range at the end of the day, or get 18 in on the weekends. I most likely will be living in Somerville and will have the ability/would be willing to drive to courses. I’ve looked into Granite Links as I’ve heard it has great facilities and a fun/challenging course, but haven’t been able to find any information on fee schedule. Any insight on rates/good clubs to join would be much appreciated!

The question of affordability is different for everyone but it definitely helps to qualify for most young executive memberships. I went through the same process last year and found that the many of the private clubs within 30-40 min of the city had long waiting lists or you needed an invite (and even after that, still a wait in many cases). Granite links was an option I looked into but doing the math on the cost, struggles with tee times even as a member, I found it was not really worth it. I do have to admit that the Granite Links membership/patrons definitely skew much younger if that's a major factor for you.  If you're in Somerville that opens up the radius a little more if you have a car and would encourage you to look beyond the 30 min circle to find the best value. That marginal 10-15 min of travel time really makes a difference in cost and overall value. I toured 5 clubs before making a decision. Happy with the decision but I definitely made some sacrifices (my club is 40 min away, can be worse with traffic). That being said, I spend a majority of my summer weekends there if I'm not trading rounds with other friends at different clubs. Currently live in the city but I imagine I'll move to the suburbs eventually. Feel free to reach out.

No offense, but I think by choosing to live in Somerville, you're probably choosing to not play golf. You'll be on a steady diet of Fresh Pond at best with no real range options.

Somerville to Granite Links can be at times an hour and a half drive

From Somerville you might be able to go north or south just as easily as trucking out west. I believe Turner Hill in Ipswich has junior memberships, Boston Golf has in Hingham national memberships which may work depending on how often you want to play. Have fun!

Yeah. "A quick 9 before work" in Boston means you have to work within 5-10 miles of the course, and not traverse any interstates or city/town centers to get there. Getting there for 630 won't be much an issue. It's getting from there to "work" after the round that will take a LOT longer.

You're probably 2-3 years late, but I know guys who live in Somerville who are members of Vesper and Bass Rocks.  I think they both have wait lists now.

If you willing to be up early. Billerica does tee times as early as 5am in mid June. $24 for 18 walking before 7am. I lived in assembly row area and played 18 every morning before work. It was about 25 minute drive up and 40 min drive down around 730-9am. I could play 18 in a little over 2 hours and be at my desk for work
