Newbie AJGA Question

I’m surprised people are so miserable going to junior golf tournaments.  I wouldn’t trade my time going to these for anything.  Road trips to different places, courses have been fun and we have met a lot of great new people.

My son started at age 6 in US Kids tournaments.  He is now 18 so this is summer number 13 of this.  I'm just ready for it to be over and enjoy college golf.  The thought of just showing up to a tournament and watching without having to do all of the planning is nice.  The fact that he can drive himself to a lot of tournaments has been a blessing but I still do the overnight trips with him.

It has been straight string of 10 years of traveling golf for me.  My son and daughter are are 6 years apart.  She did it for 5 years from 13-18 and son from 11 to 17.  So I have been involved in traveling and golf for 11 years now.  I am not even counting the early days of of USKG stuff.  I have 1 more summer to go after this 1.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

I’m 100% with you. But there are dads/kids who build their entire schedule around the American Junior Golf Association and it is F’ING exhausting.

most don’t realize until much later how unnecessary it is

I still have to drive my kid. He’s 14. But I can promise that’s the extent of it. It’s his deal. Let it be. I’m more of a hindrance than help anyway

I would rather go to a nice tournament like a US junior am, Rolex, or even a state junior championship than sitting on a beach somewhere.  We both enjoy it and we make a vacation out of where we go and see local things.

It’s only exhausting as you want it to be.  We have plenty of tournaments even after signing day just because we like doing them and want to keep trying to improve.

I don't know about you but no longer having weekends and having to save as much vacation time as you can so you can travel and attend  is pretty exhausting and doing AJGA is most exhausting of them all since it's a week long affair.

If I could just hand the keys and let them travel by themselves life would be great.  Don't get me wrong it's a lot fun when your there just a lot time is devoted to tournaments that I wish I didn't have to do.  I can see how burnout happens.  People talk about kids burning out but man no one ever talks about the parents who burn out from kids who want to play every week.

Luckily I don't have to do door dash and Uber like some parents I know have too. I can't imagine how they have enough time.
