Why do I need Mod approval to post this (UK user)

Recommended Posts

This post had a significant delay before clearance. I'm contributing as 'author' to a topic on hickory club repair and I'm highly regarded on this subject. I'm UK based and cannot see what possible offence could be construed from the text below. Can someone from the Mods enlighten me, please? Many thanks.

"Thank you very much.

I would have preferred the graft to be less obvious but I lacked the knowledge and skills. The donor persimmon wood was denser, and while I matched up the grain direction on the choice of donor, a pre-war ladies driver, I had not appreciated that the stain (rosewood water based from Golfworks) would absorb less well.

I intended that the spoon and driver would form part of a serious playing set, so durability trumped cosmetics.

The glue used was '502 Wood Adhesive All Purpose, Weatherproof' made by Ever Build, and is a UK product. Don't know how that translates in the US.

Everything else was reassembled with boat building epoxy + silica gel filler in varying degrees of stiffness according to purpose.

Possibly interesting is the horn slip, which in the 'before' shot appears severely compromised. I found that I could flatten out the bruising and deformation. A mix of runny epoxy into the endgrain and allowed to cure while held in a vice returned it to near pristine condition, allowing it to be repurposed.

Also, you can see in the 'before' that the club face timber is dried out and denatured. I gave it a wipe over with linseed oil which it soaked up like sponge. I allowed it to dry and then gave it a coat of clear runny epoxy. When cured and sanded, the surface was much more solid."

It’s the second to last word in your first paragraph.

I’ve had the same thing happen twice.  Once when I mentioned the brass horn that starts with the former President’s name.

It’s goofy.

Repost without quote because the quote put my post into the approval queue too.

Not goofy at all. Perfectly understandable.

Just the mention of him brings out the crazies, so the software is set to send any post that mentions him into the pre-mod queue.

Thank goodness Golfwrx doesn't host a post-golf Bridge or Whist tournament. Thanks for the info. Should I apologise?

It’s a good thing he wasn’t named Cleveland or Taylor.
