Im starting to get interested in looking at the Cobra Aerojet.  But then I talk myself out of it.  My thoughts are below.  Can you help me identify anything I’m missing in this analysis?

I play a cobra radspeed xb with a hzrdus blue stiff shaft.  I avg. low 170s ball speeds, 116ish chs.   I’m a plus one.

My arccos driving strokes gained versus other plus ones is basically always positive (sometimes as much as 2-3 strokes) unless I just have an awful round and hit a couple ob or something like that.  My last 50 rounds +1.5 distance, +.3 accuracy, -.6 penalties vs plus one.  I hit 46% of fairways.

What is the chances that some new driver helps me significantly? I’m not going to gain chs through a new driver right?   If so, the only way it helps me is through dispersion?

Assuming I’m correct, I am going to have no way of really knowing if this new driver helps dispersion by hitting a few in a sim.  Sure it might feel great, it doesn’t mean it’s going to perform better long term.  So it’s basically a $500 flyer.

Am I missing anything here?  Have any low handicap golfers seen a significant ball speed/chs speed jump in a driver purchase alone?  Can you really tell your dispersion is going to improve through 20 swings in a sim?

Thanks for any suggestions that I might be missing

You pretty much have your answer.  You wont be able to tell from just a short fitting.  The odds that any driver will significantly improve any metric (speed, distance, dispersion) is slim.  Very small incremental gains is all you will see unless you are in the complete wrong combo.  And most of the time, somebody who is playing at a plus would not be too far off.

People may disagree.  I am sure there is a rare case where a 1-2 year driver jump will really help.  Personally, I have never seen it.  Most people will probably end up saying just depends if its the right head/shaft combo for you.

You both bring up good points. Year to year you most likely won’t see much if any improvement.

Now if you get the right shaft for you, you might see some gains but that’s not the head doing all the work.

I personally have only seen any large gain was from my M6 driver to SIM2 Max. I gained some ball speed and dispersion was tighter by a lot.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
