MacGregor Tommy Armour Tourney REC 985 iron set. What makes them so special?

What makes these 1964 classic set of irons so special?

I'm not as much of a MacGregor nut as some here so I don't recognize them as particularly "special" but they are in wonderful original condition so they've got that going for them, which is nice.  

What is the context of the question?  Is someone suggesting they are worth a lot of money?  Generally speaking the only thing that makes vintage clubs especially valuable is if a famous person once played them.  Even the most prized vintage irons cost far less than a new set of Pings...

Not inferring that they are worth a lot of money. They are in near minty condition which would put them on the higher end of most any other REC 985 set. May be $100.00 - $125.00 or so.

My inquiry is based mainly on the Tommy Armour 1950's & 1960's golden era of MacGregor irons. These were very popular back in the day and rivaled the Wilson Dyna Powers.

I can't hit this era of blades anymore, and may be I never really did.

Just wondering how they held up against other blades of that era. Thats all.

Ah yes, I see what you mean.  I just wasn't sure what angle you were coming from with the question.  Yes of course there are examples of particularly outstanding pieces of golf equipment for every era but I think that like today, personal preference is the dominating factor in peoples choices.  Golf clubs are like clothes:  your choices are based partly on functionality and partly on what they look like or feel like - or how they make you feel.  I personally really like the looks of the irons you posted and would likely pay more than they're worth to own them but I doubt they are any more special than any of the others I have in my collection.  I just like them.
