The Grint drops handicap

Was just informed The Grint will no longer have the handicap with the Pro version. So I might have to be changing apps. Any other apps have a handicap with thier version. I don't mind the small subscription fee.

Well Handicaps are useless with the Grint Tournaments anyway, I have complained before about the allowed sandbagging at Events in Central Florida but the most recent at a pretty darn tough course took the cake.

A 27.9 Handicap shot a cool 67 to win the overall at The Crooked Cat @ Orange County National. The lower Handicaps scratch and up shot even at best. I would think that would piss them off a bit.

Confirms my thinking of not bothering to enter anymore of their Events, I really enjoyed playing some real competition but it is clearly out of control. Even having a out of this world day a 67 is pretty far fetched for a 27.9 cap.

As much as I hear what you're saying and agree, a true 27.9 cap will have wild variances in their scoring. It's quite possible they simply shot a great round 5 shots under their cap. I'd be way more suspect if a 28 cap shot a gross 78 or something.

A 5 cap shooting 5 under par is a great amazing day with everything on fire. I just don't buy it.

I agree tournament scores can be very frustrating because of the wide swings we non-pros are able to produce.

However, in the scores I saw, the gentleman shot a gross 96 (24 over par) for a net score of 67 with his handicap that was only -4.7 net to handicap. That is not totally unusual. The "Pope of Slope" gives that a 72:1 chance of happening.

I also believe that TheGrint tour uses only your "in tournament scores" for flighting purposes and not your handicap. So after one event if you were able to sneak in as a sandbagger, you would be "battlefield" promoted for additional events. Granted that the flights are in 5 stroke increments, so you may be competing against someone that is a handicap UP TO 5 strokes lower than yours and that can sometimes come into play. But you may also fall at the side that gives you a 5 stroke advantage over your competitors.
