Callaway i-Mix Technology

In hand pics!
So this past weekend I had a chance to play around Callaway's new i-Mix drivers and needless to say I was really impressed. Honestly, I could NOT tell the difference (in feel) between my FT-5/FT-i or the i-Mix heads. Both heads felt very solid and being able to change the shafts on a whim is any equipment junkie's dream. Now, only if Callaway would have also offered these in the LGC heads from the get go... :drinks: Enjoy the pics.

(I apologize in advance for the poor lighting.)

cool idea. im sure this is the past we will see of stupid ferules and epoxy

I think this is just a fitting system solution, similar to Nike's "360" setup. You are able to swap heads and shafts out for fitting, instead of carrying 100 clubs with different loft/shaft combos.

Or did Callaway release a driver to the public with this? I don't see why someone would want the inter-changability at home. Get fitted, set it, and forget it. No need to have that.

Callaway has had their Opti-Fit fitting system for over a year now. The i-Mix line is not for fitting, it is for playing, recreationally or competitively (once it is deemed conforming). I don't see any downsides to this at all, many people reshaft their driver several times per year and this obviously makes it much easier and less time consuming. Plus you can test different shafts on the same head in a matter of minutes, rather than having to install the shafts into differents heads in order to test side-by-side.

I must admit that I-Mix is a cool concept. But, on the downside..........it could be another way to mess up your swing. I went down that road with the TM R7 drivers. But then I learned that once the weights have been set for you during fitting that you shouldn't mess with it.

The only problem that I see, is that somebody not familiar with Loc-tite products is going to put Red Loc-tite, instead of the Blue Loc-tite that is seen in the fourth photo. Then they won't be able to get the head off and are going to be stuck with that shaft.

Don't forget all the dropped/dinged heads...

That certainly was the experience we had at the callaway performance center. A group of us had a ball changing shafts and mixing lofts/heads/shafts but to the man nobody could tell you what really was the best combination. They had a bunch of numbers to work with but when they returned to those set ups the results were all over the map. Everyone decided that there was just too much going on and people were actually starting to change their swings ever so slightly to "produce" what they thought should be happening with certain shaft and head combos along with their launch numbers. Great fun but definitely a way to really mess up your golf swing.

This could potentially get to be a really expensive way to mess with your golf swing.

Clubmakers everywhere, many of them truly great at what they do, cannot like the trend of this market and equipment. 5 years from now every wood will be like this IMO. Probably not irons though.

Neat idea, but this would mess me up big time. About the only club that I can have more than one of is the putter. If I was having a difficult day with my driver, 3 wood, or whatever and I had an extra one at home I would think to myself that I should have brought that one instead of focusing on what I was doing wrong. Having the ability to switch shafts might throw me into a tailspin!

I still fail to see the point here.

You get the shaft/head that fits you, and you play golf. Why change all the time? I've had shafts for years that still work for me, without the need to change.

*shrug*

Totally disagree! this forum is for Ho's who need to change and experiment incessantly :coolpics:

Seriously though, this will at best be an expensive way of testing shafts-you will need to buy them ,and they will be good only for Callaway heads. So now we have shaft inter changability ,but no clubhead inter changability!

*double shrug*
