Players Distance Irons: what do you think will come out on top for 2023?

Hope everyone is doing well! Writing, as I am curious what’s everyone’s thoughts are on 2023s top players distance irons will be?

I don't see anything that will unseat P790 from an overall market perspective (good club, huge company with marketing and footprint). Every MFG has a solid product offering in this category so great time to go shopping for sure if you are in need.

Sleeper - King Tour (Rose's King Tour 4 iron won him the tournament at Pebble)

Most Popular Online - JPX 923

Most Buzz - New T100s in the fall

Most Underrated - MacGregor MT86

Most Overrated - 0311 Gen 6

I think Paradym will do very well this year.

All the OEM brands will do well and they are all quality irons.  There's one variable here.  The vast majority of players will have to rethink spending $1,100 - $1,600 on a set of irons.  I know that I most definitely can't afford that right now.  The DTC companies will attract MANY of the buyers in the market for a set of players distance irons that are quality and can compete with the OEM's.

1. Takomo golf 101 offer a high quality set for about $459.  $500-$525 including tax and shipping

2. PXG 0211 XCor for $700 5-GW

3. Sub70 699 Series 5-PW & AW for $580

4. Ram and Giga Pursuit offer really nice irons that would be fantastic for about 80% of golfers looking Start at $400

5. Golfworks Maltby TS1-IM, TS3, TS1 offer forged at about $400-$500 with decent shafts and some customization options

6. Kirkland - Waiting to see what the new irons look and feel like and the price point.  All indicators point at a high quality set starting in the range of $459-$499.  

 

I'm sure there are a few I'm leaving out, but this would be a good start.

I’m thinking New Level 902PD deserves a mention as well here. Where they fall in the lineup though remains to be seen. 
 

I think I’m terms of ranking:

 

1. Srixon ZX5 

2. New Level 902PD 

3. Taylormade P790 

4. Mizuno JPX923 

5. Sub70 699 Pro 

6. Mizuno 225

My guess will be the new Titleist T-series in the fall. Titleist just dropped a (really good) four series episode on the evolution of speed in their drivers. Outside of the T100, which are a traditional set, an argument can be made that the T200 isn't keeping up with the category in distance. I can't help but to think they're going to spend a lot of time and effort addressing this, especially considering they're happy with where they're at in their woods now. I'm hoping to see big leaps in the T100S and the T200 this time around.

I tend to stick with Taylormade woods, Mizuno irons, Vokey wedges.

 

Mizuno 225 check every box for me. Gorgeous clean look, solid turf interaction, hit my spin rate, launch and distance is dead on.

Keep creeping on their site waiting for these. These jobbers are DROP DEAD GORGEOUS.

Distance wasn't the problem with T200 for me. They feel like crap and the back badge is cheap plastic. They're good clubs but their competition is just better.
