How do you grip the club in your left hand?

I feel like the club wants to move around in my left hand during the swing. I'm thinking I have it too much across the base of my fingers & the butt wants to work up into my palm during the swing. Should it work from the base of the pointer finger slightly diagonally so the butt is more at the meaty pad of the thumb? I remember seeing a post with a picture of a glove Slicefixer had drawn on to illustrate the left hand grip but can't find it now. Thanks...

That's probably the way most people do it with the butt running diagonally from the first knuckle. 

 

This might work for you or it might not. I was taught to grip it like this with my left hand and it works pretty well. The tapered butt end acts as a wedge to help secure the club when you swing it. 

 

 

He stressed the importance of getting the meaty part of the heel of the left hand on top of the grip so part of it hangs over the grip. 

 

 

The pressure is from the bottom, top and sides of the left hand. The left hand works like a clamp. 

 

 

The grip is at the base of the fingers of the right hand as well but the pressure is on the front and back of the grip.

For once I agree with @Zitlow. Across the base of the fingers, with the fingers working almost perpendicular to the grip.

 

You could also be "over-hinging" (by "pulling" down with your bottom hand - right hand if you're a righty), forcing it to pull out of the left hand some. But this feels unlikely since you said it wants to work into the palm.

Thanks for the replies. Seems strange to have been playing to a reasonably good level for over 50 years & be asking for advice on the grip but if advice is needed, I know where to ask for it.

Play the Jumbomax Ultralight XL's and hold them in the palm of my left hand. TO ME you have much better club face control this way.
