Irons spinning too much

What causes irons to have too much spin? Could it be still a downward AoA but having too much loft/not enough shaft lean? Feel like I have unknowingly added spin and lost a little distance

Could be a lot of things - playing the wrong golf ball, flipping into the shot and adding loft, swinging too hard, hitting down too much.

Too soft a shaft in the irons would be one.

Getting really steep, wrong ball and too soft of shaft are usually the biggest culprits in spinning irons too much.

Swing flaws can either take away or add a thousand rpm or more to your iron spin.

 

Too soft a shaft can add anywhere from 0 to a couple hundred rpm. 

 

Fix your swing flaws before going down the shaft-fitting rabbit hole.

Yea, I’m not thinking it’s a shaft issue, but see how it can be. Appreciate the replies. Playing PX 6.0 stiff which is plenty stout for me. I do think my hands are a little “back” at impact, but working on it. Used to spin 7i around 6000/6300ish now spinning it right at 7000 with a srixon zx7

Pictures? Hands should be just over the ball or a little ahead. If you are delivering loft at impact, you probably aren't getting enough movement into your lead side in transition. 7000 spin is a loooooot! Especially these days with lower 7 irons lofts. PX 6.0 shouldn't be adding spin. What's your apex for a 7 iron?
