Phantom 2

I finally broke down and ordered me a phantom 2 cause I'm fed up with dealing with Garmin App crashing all time on me. I've been dealing with them for long time and they can't fix it. 

Anyway I like simplicity and I do have a RF but find myself using GPS more because I like having that FMB of green. Plus it's quick I can look at number and swing it. I'm a fast player (9 holes in less than 1.5) so the faster I can get my numbers the better. I saw the Phantom 2 had pretty good reviews and I had an awards coupon from GG. So got it at good price. Anybody else have the phantom 2 and liking it?

I have the original Phantom.   My friend liked mine and since it has been upgraded to the Phantom 2, that is what he purchased.   He's not tech-savvy but loves the Phantom 2.   When my Phantom dies, I'll buy a Phantom 2.

Have the phantom 2 as well and like the simplicity.  i don't use some of the features and really just keep score/look at distance to front/middle/back.  

 

Generally despise Garmin interfaces.  Great hardware but the interfaces/menus on everything from boat to bike to golf gear are sub standard.

That's all I want too FMB and digital scorecard without having to have my phone. As long as I've got that I'm good! That Garmin golf app crashing Everytime I try to share a scorecard with my buddies annoys the crap out of me. I'm done with it

I liked it until I lost it. Now have the most simple Garmin watch (S12), works equally well- but I‘d prefer nothing on my wrist. 

With the Phantom 2, I liked the pin moving option and the simplicity. Straightforward and no fiddling or syncing, other than adding missing courses. 

 

Had the grey camouflage one, which looked nice. Obviously, the livery worked well, as I can’t find it anymore. 😂
No, I lost it when running to first tee on my last golf holiday, when my buddy and I didn’t want to get stuck behind a foursome with 2 carts that rolled up when we were on the practice green. Noticed it on fairway 1 and couldn’t go back to look for it. 

After several close calls almost losing it, I decided to get a watch next.

That‘s about the only negative, and I recommend using the included clip at all times on your trolley or bag (if you’re a walker). The magnet works great on cart poles. I preferred sticking it on an iron sole when carrying (as I could see the display right away when setting down the bag), but that’s dangerous. It slipped off a few times and usually got stuck to another iron head or even a shaft- very risky, and you don’t notice it slipping when carrying. 

On that fateful day, I had it attached to my 3 wood head (headcover on, so looser than on an iron), as I had waited for it to find the course we were at, and forgot to secure it afterwards. Can’t lose a watch that way. 

I just always found it a little inconvenient to turn it towards me or bow down to see the display when I used the clip on my stand bag. 
 

Other than that, great device.

I've never had issues with the magnet on my OG Phantom.   I stick it to the cart and it stays put.   The only issue I've had is forgetting it but now I put my car keys in the case and can't drive w/o opening the case to remind me to grab the device.

 

The magnet on the Phantom 2 is supposed to be stronger than the Phantom.

The magnet is great, I had the first gen Phantom as well (and lost it, too), there’s a clear improvement there. It’s just the way I attached it when carrying, that caused it to come off. Clubs move when you walk or sling the bag over your shoulder, but I loved how the Phantom was right there in front of me after setting down the bag. User error.

I have the Phantom 2 in orange and absoultely love it. I still use my rangefinder on occasion when I want to shoot a specific target for distance, but the Phantom 2 does the trcik on most shots. I find it to be very accurate and love it's simplicity. I actually purchased a second one (blue)for my back-up bag that I am going to sell on Ebay as I unloaded most of my back-up stuff.

Phantom 2 is awesome.  It's cheap, has great battery life and provides the key information you need if you're just looking for a general idea how far away you are.  I keep mine on my golf cart and it's great especially on Par 5's when you're trying to figure out the best club to use on your 2nd shot or if you want to verify the distance your rangefinder is providing is in the ballpark and not picking up something else in the background.
