You mentioned JPX and Mizuno in this thread but no one has suggested that you try those out so I will. How about the JPX Tour? If consistency is the key and you don't need your lofts jacked, this clubhead is checking some boxes.  Forgiveness is pretty reasonable.  I'm playing them as a once-a-month decent ballstriker, and I haven't wanted more forgiveness. My 6i swing speed is 88-90mph.

Thanks, will check out.

If your irons are the worst part of your game then IMO moving to something less forgiving is probably not the answer.

One suggestion would be to slow your iron swing down and focus on strike rather than swinging that fast. There's nothing to be gained (apart from ego massaging) in swinging an iron that fast so focus on tempo and swing smoother...you'll probably find that your strike and shot consistency improves.

I get weekly lessons and that's part of the program. Smoothing out the swing and having better tempo doesn't drop the speed a ton, and I could be 100+ if I was really ripping at it. I'm 6'5 330 so there's an element of speed that isn't going away due to size and all that stuff. Trying my best to figure it out.

The intended target for player’s distance irons generically are older players who are accurate but have lost swing speed and want/need additional distance. That’s the anti-you. When high swing speed players with “average” dispersion use them, they indeed go very far in some direction.

IMO there’s a total of 1 iron set directed specifically at your needs - i210/230’s. I guess that’s sort of two sets… The Mizuno 223 is an apparent attempt to clone the Pings onto a forged piece, but their success is for you to determine.

Yea I messed around with i210s for a bit. I was really surprised at their size and profile given what I thought about em and how they were used on tour. Definitely felt like p790 profile but I know they're designed with more of a player's package in mind. I hit em mighty high but it was nice to get some spin back. I'll try the 230s for sure, thank you.

Yeah 230s with retro spec.

I'm 58 y/o, 150 lbs, play the p790 2017, hcap 11, drive it 250/260 on a good day, I wouldn't go back to a none hollow body iron because I don't want to give up this "new" distance. But, I've got a youngster I sometimes play with, 6ft 3, drives it 300 (comfortably) I've played this game for 25 years, and this guy is a ball striker, he plays the 3rd gen P790's. Does he need to? Clearly not, but he knows his distances with each iron, he can vary trajectory to take a little off, and he hits everything flush, I no longer believe he needs a players iron to score better. In fact it seems to me that the tungsten weights in the 790's which promote (?) higher launches, work even better with high swing speeds, assuming you are not a low ball hitter. Hopefully I've made my point by now. But if you have any doubts, go to Ebay, look for any older set of blades, players irons, Dynamic Gold in whatever stiff version you like, decent grips, so you don't have to spend more money changing those out, and try those out on the cheap, they are so un-popular now, you'll probably spend less than USD$250 for a set. To be clear we are talking late 1990s early 2000s, check the specs online, 48 degree p/wedge....you are in the zone. My personal choice would be Mizuno. Good luck with the never ending search....

Great way to put it there, feels never ending for sure. Wish I wasn't as new to golf and had more experience with Mizunos throughout the years but man it seems like they've always made some killer irons.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
