2023 Ping putters (not PLD)

I haven’t seen too much discussion, or usage on Tour (which I guess makes sense since staffers can just get any custom PLD they want instead). The black finish might look a touch cheap judging from pictures, but other than that, these putters (or at least some of the models) seem pretty nice for the price. Anyone have experience with the models with the 304SS body and horizontal groves?

 

I’m also curious how they stack up against an equivalent PLD model (DS72, Anser1, Tyne4), considering the nearly $200 price difference, if anyone has happened to test/compare the two

Honestly I thought the 2021 models were better in pretty much every respect…but that is just because I like the softer feel of the insert.

 

Unfortunately the finish on the 2021 sole was garbage and would fade off.

 

they stack up against the off the rack PLD just fine in performance.
 

But the sound and feel is superior in the PLD. The new pings still have a higher pitch sound and firmer feel than the 2021 but doesn’t feel as solid as the PLD.

 

They aren’t bad or anything, they just didn’t seem like anything special.

 

Honestly I think Ping was trying to see which model sold the best to get new ideas for directions to go for the next line and for head ideas for PLD

It is interesting to see the various faces/inserts in the 2023 lineup. I liked the feel of 2021 line too (I think I might be one of few putter fiends on here that gets along with both soft and firm putters; seems like most hold a strong preference) but, like you mentioned, the finish just looked really weak - at least for the original msrp

 

I guess I just have to see for myself how high-pitched the horizontal SS milling is in the 2023 line, I can’t do super high-pitch.

Just picked up the Anser, I liked the Shea also.  I putted with the PLD off the rack, and didn't really see much in it as far as feel.  Not $450 worth that's for sure!

I started with the Ping PLD Oslo 4, then I moved on to the 2023 Ping Kushin 4 and now I'm playing a 2021 Ping Harwood, which I like the best.

I recently put the 2023 Shea in my bag and I can’t believe how good it rolls it. I eyed it all year and finally bought a mint used one and I’ve made more putts my last 5 rounds than I have all year. PLD overshadows a wonderful putter line

I just picked up a Kushin4 off the “Bay” and it’s in the bag. Mine actually came with a “slight arc” label rather then “strong arc” and doesn’t have as much toe hang as the ones I’ve tried in the store. It rolls the ball very nicely. I can really feel when I hit the sweet spot or miss slightly, even though the ball rolls true anyway.
 

it came with the PP58 midsized which I tried (again), but changed to the PING blackout for better feel and control. 
 

I Love the top sight line!
 

I’m adjusting to the increased weight coming from a MgBr Anser2, but distance control is still good.

 

The black paint is fragile. I keep my putters covered unless I’m using it, and I already see a few small knicks. 
 

I’m thinking of having the black removed and either a brushed satin finish on the body or a PING dark grey finish.
