Yea definetly tiger. but other names on tour, imo? adam scott. hes got the most technically sound swing on tour. probably the nicest out there. and yea, byrd, anthony kim, immelman, ch3, and donald all have nice swings. they all have to work one way or the other if there on the pga tour right?? just my two cents

cheers

I agree that slavishly copying a player's swing isn't always the best policy; but, from a purely aesthetic point of view, I greatly admire (or admired)

Ian Woosnam

Greg Norman

Tom Purtzer

Tom Watson

Nick Faldo

All very different swings and tempos, but they were all a delight to watch in their primes IMO and hit the nail on the head.

True, there are some not so technically sound swings that produce all the shots necessary. But think in the long term or the future, the swing of so called elusive 'perfection' will be more rotary 'Immelman'-like than the fan favorite up-and-down 'Scott'. It seems to leave less on the table for error and it seems that Tiger and even Scott himself are more or less working toward the more one round compact motion.

That is a great two plane top by the way, I have a friend who will be playing for a D1 team next year who has the exact top position as him. Who is that, by the way?

I'm not a big fan of selecting a certain player as an "IDEAL" swing model.

EXACTLY, there is NO one model for all players........but there are COMMON DENOMINATORS and you ingrain them into YOUR swing and you'll be MUCH better off.......IMOP

Would a good model be like a lottery number that you get after the draw is done? I mean it's good to know, but it does not help you to execute? It only helps you to figure out what kind of number show often.

We cannot stear our club by conscious knowledge of a swing. Swing is a fast movement that is done by unconscious control and pre-existing model. Thinking of a swing during a shot messes up your normal control. Like AJ Bonner buts it. Golf is hitting a ball with a stick. It's not hitting with a swing - not even a great model.

I think you can learn from an other player, but there is a big and difficult step to impliment a conscious idea to a automated motor skill.

Question is what is a good model to imitate - my answer would be that any tour player is good to immitate as long as you think of it as "role play". Idea how would it feel to swing like Ernie... Maybe our body learns something as we break our routines?

I knew Trevor Immelman's swing would bring back success one day! He played beautifully tee to green and not to mention his great putting. It looks like the Scotty is working well for him

My personal favorite for many, many years.......he's a VERY deserving champion......and he'll win a few more before he's through too...... :good:

His ballstriking was incredible (even with the aberration on 16) for the whole week. I'm keeping that tape for a LONG time. The 9:00 to 3:00 and the knucklefade won the Masters. Whenever my wedges start getting out of whack, I'll go back to some of those amazing little 90 yd wedges Trevor hit with the 9:00 to 3:00. When my driver starts to leak, I'm going straight back to that swing he made on 18. Just incredible. Not to mention the 8-iron from the divot on 18...talk about compressing a ball properly.

Immelman's swing motion has evolved as I compare old YouTube vids and his actual swing. He is now basing his swing on a rotary basis, although, there are still some 2-plane elements in his downswing/release (e.g. too down-the-line swing - with all consequences as Geoff already pointed out). Having said that his new swing is very good and I am glad that somebody like him won the Masters. He surely has a potential to be a great ballstriker.

Cheers

Further to my earlier 'through the ages' answer, the best swing I've seen in person from the current players belongs to Oliver Fisher.

I'm not qualified to comment on the technical aspects of his swing, but I've followed him for a round and the kid can really play. He and Rory McIlroy are the future of British golf.

I'd agree wit that.

I played a round a year or two back with another Fisher - Ross - when he was setting out on his pro career. I'd throw his name into the mix too. A fantastic talent. He made the game look laughably simple and shot a ridiculous round on the day. If he can introduce a consistency to his golf I think he'll be a fantastic player.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
