Greenville/Spartanburg

Will be in Greenville for a weeding first weekend of November. Was looking around at courses. I may have a connection to get on to private courses, although I don't want to abuse it.

I'm kind of thinking the Furman course will be nearly as good, but am willing to be told I'm wrong. Is there another course I should look at? And while I assume a number of privates are better, are they so much better to make the effort and expense worthwhile? Am willing to look at Spartanburg as well if that is a better option.

A bit out of the way, but Musgrove Mill is really good.

I second the Furman recommendation for best public option. Convenient and fun layout.

Musgrove is private but pretty accessible. Pack your A game if going that route. It’s a bear.

Can Musgrove be walked?

What about GCC Chanticleer course? Is it worth trying to get on? Musgrove is quite the hike from where we are staying. I'd list it as more of a last resort I think for this time.

I think it’s the home course for a local college, so , yes it is walkable. There was a guy from the Purdue team there when we played there. There were several young ladies from Presbyterian College walking , as well. The hardest walks will probably be from 9&18 green to the clubhouse, and frem 9 to 10. Walkable, but a good hike.

Chanticleer is definitely worth trying to get on. The riverside course is also very good just much easier in my opinion. Green valley is great the just got new greens. Any of the cliffs courses are fantastic Mtn park is my personal favorite. And of course thornblade is always good. If you have a hook personally I would try to get on cliffs Mtn park

Thanks for the reply. I will be attending a wedding ceremony at the Cliffs on Glassy (I think that is how you call it), but a late afternoon Saturday ceremony is not getting me on early Sat morning I'm sure, even in November. That course looks pretty interesting as well.

So I ended up playing Furman on Friday. This is a good course, one that is both fun to play and will challenge you. Sadly, the the 14 hour drive the day before was only my second biggest of the day. Seeing the car say it was 27 degrees as I drove out to the course. Over an hour frost delay.

Course is frankly amazingly cheap to play, but it most certainly isn't a cheap course. Not sure if I will ever get to Greenville again, but I would love to take a run at it again when the weather is not freezing and I'm not sore as heck.
