GC3 carry distances indoors versus outdoors

Anyone have any thoughts on this?  I have a s trong understanding of LMs, having owned multiple flightscopes and now on my second GC.  My question is this:  has anyone seen a situation where carry distances on the GC are longer outside versus inside?  The only thing I can think of would be if the lights in my garage are having an impact?  Prime example is I was hitting Pro V 1s on the range Sunday and carrying 7 iron approx 175 off grass (per GC3). Today, at home in my garage on a premium mat, Pro V 1 carring 165 at best.  This is not an anomoly either.  This seems to be an ongoing theme regardless of which clubs I hit, I consistently get longer carry numbers through the bag outside versus inside.  Thoughts anyone?

10 yards isn’t crazy off but you know your game better than anyone. Any issues at home with “indoor syndrome” where you may not be swinging completely free due to walls/ceilings?

 

Sounds like you’re not new to LM’s so I’m assuming you’ve done the basic checks but maybe take a peak at the altitude and barometer readings comparing both locations. Are you getting the readings directly off the unit while at home or through the FSX software?

I have a fair amount of experience with Foresight launch monitors inside and out (had a GC2 from 2016-2020, and have had a GC Quad since) and I've found that 100% of inside vs outside distances observed so far are due to subconscious issues swinging inside. Not saying that's your issue... but chances are, it is.

I suppose it could be "indoor syndrome" because immediately after using it indoors, I head to my range (hitting ProV's) and distance is restored.  I was wondering if my indoor lighting could have been causing any issues.

For me (GC3 owner), the biggest difference is the mat and what it does to spin. I bought a Quadra mat but it was killing my hands.  I switched to one (forget the name) that is plexi + soft foam underneath it.  That eliminated the hand pain completely but when I did back to back testing, the new mat loses 500-800 RPM's with the irons.  That yields longer (but more unrealistic) distances and from what I've seen, all mats yield less spin than grass.  Of course that's the opposite of what you're seeing (assuming "outdoors" == grass).

Try comparing the data beyond just carry between indoor and outdoor - swing speed, angle of attack, launch angle, spin, ball speed, etc.

I agree with Dennis, could be that your deliver the club differently hitting off of a mat than when on grass.

 

also, turf conditions can occasionally alter iron distances. I’ve seen this before with people on my sim though usually in a way that makes the sim seem longer, not shorter. Cery firm ground can offer “forgiveness” if low point is not being controlled properly.
