Spin Milled vs. RAC TP

Looking to buy new wedges and need some opinions?? - I narrowed it down to two - the Spin Milled Vokeys or RAC TPs.

 

Any advice or comments??

Both are great wedges. I have the TP 60* but my dad has the 54 and 58* Spin Milled.

Both have very deep grooves. You should demo both.

They both spin the ball great IMO. What's wrong with the Tw5's? I heard they are sharp.

It is a total toss up on the two, both are as good a wedge as you could ever want, like stated already, demo both and see which is better for you, you will be happy with either choice. That being said, i like the Vokeys, but both are comparable to each other.

The Spin Milled are flat out awesome wedges. They setup perfectly and perform like you wouldn't believe. Definitely check them out.

 

The retail RAC TP's are also good wedges, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Vokey. One plus to the RAC's is that they don't tear up balls as fast.

 

If you can get your hands on a tour Y-Cutter you may want to consider those as well. There's a few now listed in the BST section as well as on Ebay. Since the TP's came out, you can find them new for around $150.

At this time of the year why not hold out till February and see what The PGA show brings, there might be some improvements and diffrent finishes for both.

You should see an oil can spin milled offered next year. I was pretty disappointed overall with the spin milled, I wanted to find a wedge with super spin in the 60*, which I waited 2 months to get from titleist, only to find it ho hum. I've got TPs in the bag now. I would also consider CG10s, my previous wedges and can definitely hold their own.

Spin Milled! Don't buy into the bs saying that y-cutters have y0shaped grooves!!! all y-cutters are, are soft box grooves! Spin Milleds have larger grooves and are sharper! Much more spin with Spin Milleds!

Y cutter grooves were never shaped like Ys...total BS from the usual source. They are still very nice wedges with a nice small shape.

I never tried a TP, but I've compared a SM 60-08 to an Fe2O3 y cutter (2 dots) 60 (not sure about the bounce, says 12 on the club but probably not quite that much) and I far prefer the feel of the y cutter. The SM felt hard and less comfortable (same shaft actually, S400) and I was much more at home with the y cutter. I thought the spin was close, a little more on the SM. The finish on the y cutter is so soft and comfortable to me. Maybe I'll check out an oil SM when they come out.

I've never seen anywhere, least of all from Taylor Made, that they Y-cutters had Y-shaped grooves :dntknw:

The Y comes from it being the Y-iteration of groove designs that TM tried.

Y-cutter grooves are so-named because they are part of a progression of groove designs named for letters of the alphabet. The name has nothing to do with the shape of the groove.

 

 

That being said I have never tried the SMs, and I have ordered a 56* TM TP and plan to order a 52* and a 60* as well. (a UK-based online-shop have them for £49.99 until tomorrow). Either wedge should be fine.
