Do people you meet ask "Hey, what’s your handicap?” when you meet them and mention you play golf?

This is a huge pet peeve of mine for a long time that recently happened to me. A while back I shot a 76 on a challenging golf course that I typically shoot 3-6 stokes higher that 76. I am more than happy to keep it to myself, but my friend told some other people we know. Well a few days later i ran into one of those people who cannot break 90 and it basically went like this.

 

Them: I heard you shot a 76 the other day.

Me: Yes I had a really good day.

Them: What tees were you playing from?

Me: Why does that matter? (I couldn't help myself)

Them: I was just curious.

 

I have never asked anyone what tees they were playing from regardless of their score. I The game is tough and fickle. If you put up a good number at an appropriate yardage related to how far you hit the ball I am equally impressed and happy for you.

Was at a convention years ago, about 150 people, one afternoon for golf for all interested, about 40 played.  A noted quality golf course off the whites, 6200.  Played with three 15-20 handicaps.  
With no warmup I was on that day with my 4 cap and shot 69.  Cocktail reception that evening, I didn’t say anything, but the other 3 players did!   People I never met before kept coming up to me, all kinds of inane questions and comments.  Just tried to change the subject and move on.  Didn’t work. 
 

Regardless , still have the card.

I was asked 'what's your HC?' by the grocery store clerk loading bags into my trunk after he saw my clubs.

 

He proceeded to tell me he was better than me.
