HX Hot Bite/Bridgestone e5+/Top-Flite Gamer

Which of these would you choose for decent green side control, and soft off the putter? I've heard a lot of good things about the e5+, but wanted to get your take.

Maybe buy a sleeve of each and test them out, figure out which one you like the best. :)

If you want soft off the putter throw the Wilson Zip into the mix as well. Good distance holds well in the wind decent greenside spin and very soft off of the putter.

I've tried the Gamer. I got pretty good spin on approach shots. Greenside spin doesn't check quite like a premium ball but does pretty decent. Didn't feel as good off the putter as the D2 feel but overall a great value for $20 a dozen. I've seen some places selling them for $25 a dozen so it depends on where you get them. I'm really wanting to try the Burner TP ball.

I have played a few rounds with the Gamer and found it to be a good. It is not a Pro V but it is much better than most of the "long" balls that dont stop at all. Next up is going to be a test run with the Hot. I understand it has a little more bite than the Gamer.

The e5+ is a great ball IMO. In the Golf Magazine test, the spin rate was that of a Pro V1 and many other premium balls (using an 8 iron) Of course this was tested with a robot at a set swing speed so those numbers could vary from person to person. That being said I'm using the e5+ along with the Pro V1 and the B330. IMO, the e5+ is as close as you can get to a "premium ball". I have not tried the others or the nxt tour or burner tp.... i have heard many great things about both. Can't wait to try them both!!! I love that there are so many choices.... experimenting to find the right ball is fun!!!!!

I really like the hot bite in the couple rounds I played with it. checks pretty well around the green, and feels softer off the putter then the ix at least to me.

Yeah the bite is much softer. After seeing how the premium balls are made there is a reason they feel harder with the click. Because the cover is so thin you are basically hitting the inner cover.

Most of the pro shops I've been in to sell golf balls by the sleeves.

The e5+'s are great but I find them flying a little too high for my liking.

 

On the other hand the Gamer seems to drop from the sky from my woods... (I wish they didn't because they're so cheap and generally perform very well).

 

Try the NXT tour, they're abit expensive but you may find they work well for you.

Bite and e5+ have more spin, due to their cover material...but e5+ feels hard to me...though it spins the best of the 3. For soft feel with the putter they'd be in this order for me...Bite, Gamer, e5+.

I second the nxt tour-it is a great ball for the right player. Very long and nice feel for a mid priced ball.

I have only played the gamer ( a full dozen) and a few of the e5s. And I would not recommend either of them for feel off the putter. I felt the gamer was quite hard off the putter. It had great distance off my driver and irons but I did not like the "feel" on or around the green. I have not played enough e5s to have an opinion. I am currently using srixon ad333 and if your looking for a good budget ball with a soft feel on your short game and putter I like them the best out of budget priced balls. I get them for 20/doz CAD.
