Best Timeless Shape

Can anyone give me their thoughts on which makers make the best timeless (think that’s what it’s called!) shape. Love the low, wide tie sole look

Lajosi Sensor 

 

Almost identical but the Sensor doesn't have a dog ear cavity.

Josey/Mack Made can make anything, and if you're looking to start with an example that already has the concave shoulders of the Timeless, then he has already made a bit of a replica here. There are a few slight differences, but the general shape is about as close as you can get. The image shown is a widebody blade, but you can ask for a narrower/tour width, narrower topline, and potentially change the shape of the cavity.

Not really but splitting hairs on a $700 putter vs whatever a CT sells for.

Honestly the stock Newport 2 is a better example. At least compared to that specific sensor. It looks more like to 2010 select.

Wait when did anser 2 style heads start getting called “timeless” as a head design? 
 

personally, A2 in BeCu will always be my favourite anser 2 head shape

Hopefully never haha…I thought OP was just referring specifically to the circle T pictured above.

 

I don’t think Lajosi’s Sensor is too similar to a Newport 2/Timeless other than the squared off bumpers. Besides Mack Made, there are a few others who are making shapes a lot closer to the Newport 2/Timeless than Lajosi, but as stated above, an OTR Special Select is technically closer than any of em. 

 

@GBGolfingtons, what exactly are you asking when you say, “Who makes the best timeless…?” What parts do you want/like? You mentioned tri-sole, but what else? What’s your budget? What makers do you already know?

If we're gonna get into OTR cameron versions, then can't forget about the studio stainless NP2. Came in all three HW, 330, 340 and 350.  Tri sole as you requested, and I think less than the customs listed above.

Thanks. I must be honest - not actually 100% sure what I’m after (and have a reasonable budget) - just think that the putter I referenced is an absolute thing of beauty!!

A older Byron Morgan 620 is tougher to find, but can get for under 1K:

Yeah. Ebay, here, probably some FB groups. Also look for the 006. Pretty much the same shape as 620.

No, but the studio stainless newport 2 is super recognizable because it's the closest OTR thing to the scotty that Tiger uses. Different, but beautiful!! Many people prefer them to the newer timeless shape you posted above.

 

Any non-circle T Scotty is not going to have hand stamps and extra bumper milling like the one you originally posted, so if that's what you're going for, then you're going to need to venture into the custom realm. If you just like the head shape, then a standard Special/Super Select Newport 2 is what you're looking for (depending on what face milling you prefer). You can see the head shapes are nearly identical between Scheffler's Newport 2 and a Special Select Newport 2 here:

 

From the topline, they'd look the exact same

Wider from face to back or heel to toe? Stainless might be slightly shorter from heel to toe but is not wider from face to back.

Weston Maughan makes a really good NP2/timeless style, doesn't have the dog ears but everything else is pretty spot on imo

Tri & Blank Sole, very good shape. Can't go wrong with its simplicity

TLDR, Ping Anser is the most copied putter of all time.  
The definition of  Timeless. 
Nothing else.

Take some time to look through these forums/threads and google around a bit until you’re closer to knowing what you want. Once you’re there, bring in the community for a bunch of focused advice/help.
 

If you are looking for alternatives to a Circle-T Timeless but don’t know what you like about it, then the thread isn’t going to get very far and will turn into a bunch of people posting random pics of anser 2 shaped putters…kinda where we’re at now haha

Any blade with a flow or non-plumbers neck are the most timeless to me.  Laguna is my favorite, which looks different than a Zing2 at address.

 

I am always amazed when people cannot wait to point out that lots of putters look like ansers... like all improvements made to cars over the years are just the same as Model T since they were the first to be mass produced, have 4 wheels and a steering wheel.  Ferrari 250 GT = Model T.  A Cameron Newport, 009, etc or a TP Mills plays nothing like an Anser and look different too.

Yep. Pretty much this  - although BeNi and SS Anser 2s are also great, ofc. 

 

"Timeless" makes zero sense too, given that Karsten Solheim released the Ping Anser 2 in 1982 (pat pend). It therefore is very much temporal, although I suppose it will be copied without credit for as long as golf still exists. I've never understood why patents are so short, but that's a whole other discussion. Happy new year everyone!
