Looking for iron shaft at 105gr range for smooth swinger

Recommended Posts

Hi.

there are some nearly similar thread out there, but I do not want to mix different topics

I have a smooth swing, moderate to slow load. SS with driver is 95 on normal days, close to 100 on very good days. 6 iron is about 80
I am playing a Srixon iron set with Modus 120 stiff shafts and I really like these shafts in the scoring irons. But from 7 iron and longer I have the feel, the heavier shafts hinder my swing.
I also did play a Wilson D9F set with TT AMT black S300 shafts and this was ok. But the AMT shafts have been not very good in specs, the ascending weight was not very accurate and so I wanted to try something new and changed to MMT 95s. The Mitsubishi web page told me for my SS to choose the stiff version. But to be honest, the Stiff version is really to stiff for my swing. But the MMT is not available in 95 or better 105 regular.

what I like at the MMT was the different balance point, it was super easy for me to realize my favorite Swing Weight D4 with steel standard length irons. I was trying Steelfiber i95 before and to bring the irons to D3 needed to add around 6gr of tip weight

I could play the Modus 120 and change the i7 to i5 into another Nippon shaft like NS1050 pro…. Would this make sense?

My SS is 83+/- now, still have a fast tempo and transition which tends to keep me in "S" flex.  With a smooth moderate swing, "R" is more in line, and MMT 85R is available.

I have been testing PX 5.5 in 5-PW, but surprisingly going back to MMT 85S or 95S in 5-PW.  I currently have MMT 85S in 3 & 4i which work nicely for me.

Modus 105 R perhaps. 103g and pretty darn smooth. Will be less stiff in the tip than your 120's. Is a far more linear shaft then the 120.

Talk to @Popeye64 about Xcaliber rapid taper graphite shafts. You can get them in 95 or 105 versions. I call them a happy medium between Recoil and Steelfiber shafts.

i stil have some older irons with Nippon pro 1050GH and also pro 1150GH tapered shafts and they feel nice as well. where is the difference to the Titleist version? with the older NS Pro shafts I have a better feel with the 1150GH shaft in stiff and soft stepped once.

at the moment i am playing some older irons when playing outside and I am surprised about the good feel of the older Nippons.

next move will be: soft step and add 0.5" in lenght to the MMT 95stiff shafs of my Wilson set and catch an Aerotech Steelfiber AMI99 regular set from the 2nd hand market to give them a try because of the soft stepping I will have a free i5 head for a first try out

My experience is that the Titleist 105T has a softer tip than the 1050GH, making it easier to hit (for me).  I'm a big believer in that shaft.  I have moved to 950 GH NEO because of age and swing speed, but I had success with the 105T, first in stiff and then in regular from 2010 to last year.
