YouTube reviews not helpful

I'm checking out all the new drivers this year and like many others I search the web for reviews to see what the general consensus is.

I'm finding the YouTube reviews completely unhelpful since most of the reviewers are not relatable. I don't understand why there's not more reviews for average golfers? There is actually one reviewer named "The Average Golfer", but I think he may be the only one.

Watching popular guys, like Rick Shiels pound balls into oblivion is entertaining, but really gives me no information about how that club would perform in my hands.

I go out as a single a lot, so during the year I'm playing with a large random sampling of the general golfing public. I can tell you maybe 1 out of 10 people I play with are capable of hitting 300 yards. The majority of them (including myself) are 230 yards or less, and maybe 3 of 10 guys hitting 250+ on a regular basis.

So why is it that these reviews are mostly geared towards that very small minority of big hitters? You would think if someone really wanted to generate more subscribers they would adjust their content to be more relatable to a larger audience. I don't get it.

That’s inaccurate.

Most YT channels providing club reviews dive into numbers, some in a pretty serious way, and do all sorts of comparisons, driven to provide information relevant to various handicap levels. You still have to understand what launch and spin, etc mean and try to figure out how things relate to you. I could name half a dozen without searching and each of those are easily relatable to whatever you think the “average” golfer is. And not a single one of them averages 300 yards or even acts like that’s relevant.

They are not hard to find - I can find them, lol, so it can’t be hard.

To be fair, most (all?) subjective club reviews are worthless unless you swing exactly like the person doing the review, and odds are you don't whether you're a low cap or high cap. That's why getting fit is the real answer - so you can review it yourself and find the head/shaft combo that works for your swing. If you get ten 16 cappers in a room and fit them correctly, I'd almost guarantee that you'd end up with 10 different head/shaft combinations and each would say theirs was good but the others were bad. That wouldn't be helpful either.

Just look at these "reviews" as entertainment. They're mostly just overviews and not actual reviews anyway.

How can anyone give a proper review by hitting 10 shots in a simulator with a stock shaft & loft?

Some are fluff pieces to promote the brands, some are honest. If I can find people on Youtube who are A honest and B don't hit the ball a mile who talk about golf, im sure you can also!

Everyone has such a unique move at the ball with different speeds. You really need to do your own research and data to see what combo fits your swing. I would recommend always doing this on a real range and not a simulator. You can’t beat real time ball flight data.
