Best manual stat-tracking app?

Recommended Posts

Apologies if there is a forum on this already, if so please direct me to it.

I really want to keep strokes gained stats. I have all the pieces for arccos (just not the subscription lol), considering Shot Scope X5 as well. However, I am concerned about those being a distraction, as I have used arccos for a few rounds and did find it distracting.

I have no problem recording stats myself and uploading manually, and possibly prefer it as it eliminates the chance for errors. I have tried GolfMetrics and Circles. What do y’all think is the best app to manually enter stats for strokes gained and why? And do you think something with sensors like Shot Scope is worth it over manual entry?

Golfmetrics is user-friendly, seamlessly integrating into my round without causing distractions. However, I've heard that the app is undergoing a significant overhaul for Spring 2024, which may lead to a different user experience.

ShotbyShot is efficient, requiring minimal interaction, roughly 15 seconds per hole. While its data presentation differs slightly from Golfmetrics and other strokes gained (SG) apps, it's well-organized and easy to comprehend.

Bebrassie is another low-interaction app, effortlessly capturing all full swings while resting in your pocket. The only tasks on your phone are marking putts, hole location, and entering your score. Post-round, it takes around 4-5 minutes to rectify missed short game shots and note the club used (until the app learns your distances). Its SG data presentation is excellent.

All these apps come with subscription models, typically ranging from $70-80 US per year.

Currently, I'm using Golfmetrics alongside a Garmin S70 watch. Previously, I used the Shotscope X5 and appreciated its data, but I ultimately preferred a watch that also tracked health and fitness activities, prompting my return to Garmin.

Useful, thanks! Do you know if there are any manual apps that have more options to measure strokes gained against? For example, on Arccos you can get really precise and measure against pretty much any specific handicap, whereas Golf Metrics you can only measure against pro or scratch, if I remember correctly. Similar with Circles: scratch, college player, or pro.

I find the technology distracting.  I ended up using Shot by Shot, whether on the phone app or with one of their scorecards.  It gave good Strokes Gained data via their website.  And that's all I wanted.  Found out I was a very good putter - helpful as it stopped me mucking around with putters.  And that I was a relatively poor iron player - also helpful as I focussed my practice and lessons around this.

Unfortunately Shot by Shot has been sold to Swing U which has other things on it that I'm not interested in.  And they won't be importing my six years of SG data from the old website.  Which is a shame.

So I've got an opportunity to start again.  Is there anything else out there that will collate this simple data?  I don't mind manually recording stats and I don't mind paying for it.  I do mind watches, tags, sensors, and spurious other nonsense on apps or websites.
