I recently picked up a gamed and mistreated CT Newport. Came with a COA but had seen some use/abuse. Scorchbrite or wire brush was used to clean face, worn paint and someone buffed and looked to have used gun blue or something else to polish. Debated on gaming, selling, trading or sending in for refinish. Decided to clean it up myself to decide if it was salvageable. Stripped it over the last couple days and it's down to Nickel plating with a copper underlay showing. Debating next steps but thought I would share the fun.

Hopefully you got it for a good price. I would have sent it to the custom shop and just paid their redic price to bring that back to new - or even norcal.

studio is still likely in its future. The bones were better than I expected.

i always loved the old school tour Newports over the newer ones. they have more character to them. I think the custom shop would take care of it for sure. the issue is the price for them to restore a tour issue is pretty high. 

 

BOS golf could be another option. they were the ones who initially did the black oxide finish for SC.

IIRC they wont refinish it if you do stuff like this to it or have other refinishers touch it, but maybe it's different for a CT?

Was already altered either way. Had positive response when I asked

they'll have to restore it back to the way it was originally. they're pretty strict on it too. Some had to pay get their painfilled because they changed the paint on their own putter, even if they sent it in for just a head cover or grip.

IMO, these are the ones to have.  I have several and they were all tour used and they are beautiful.  I would much rather have one of these than a new one that sits in an office or closet.  I don't game them since I have had putters stolen before, but I don't mind hitting some putts with them from time to time.  I will never refinish them - if your cert says who had/used it (if anybody), then that is really cool.

 

I have sent putters back with aftermarket finish and paint and it was no problem.  If you have an aftermarket shaft, then just mail them the head.  I know that they used to gripe about this and refuse service, but I think that they changed their policy as long as they can get the finish off.  It was a dumb policy.

looking at the stamps and milling, It looked to be refinished before you got your hands on it.
