Hello Wrx'ers

 

Landed a project for a customer with headquarters in Sydney. It will have me travel and be in Sydney for approximately 3 months in the next year to come. Having ample free time and loving my golf and anything golf (gear, fitting, putting, fitness) I'm looking for some tips and insights on what is available. 

 

First of all, I would love to play with some local Wrx'ers. If anybody out there is up for a round with a 50yr old 5 capper, please feel free to reach out. My first trip will be from March 25th up to April 12th. Weekend typically will be best when it comes down to playing. 

 

Any advice on decent / good tracks that I could get a round on? From what I could uncover it seems like the majority of courses are private but not sure. 

 

I'm interested in getting a LAB putter and getting an aimpoint clinic in while I'm there. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I’m not from Sydney but visited once and played one round. It shouldn’t be your daily track but you have to play New South Wales. They allow outside play.

+1 for NSW. Another good one just North of Sydney is Newcastle, also an old Alister Mackenzie track. If you have connections or even write a nice letter, you might get on The Australian (actual Nicklaus design) or Royal Sydney which may have a reno going. 
Other than that take a one hour flight to Melbourne where the best courses are located.

Thanks!  Any decent options a price bracket lower? NSW is on the list but that will not be my go to track.

I don’t know a lot about the Sydney public golf scene but maybe Bankstown, Long Reef and Moore Park (before they close it) are cheap and worth a look. The Coast is supposed to be ok and quite spectacular. In fact I might play there myself next time I visit - its not far from NSW.

For a quick 9 holes you can play Northbridge or Cammeray.

Moore Park and Eastlake are decent budget options. I haven't played many of the courses out West but those courses are also easier on the wallet.

 

St. Michael's Golf Club is right next to NSW Golf Club and is a bit cheaper.

If you have time to spare and the funds available, if you are a Bandon Dunes fan, a trip to Tasmania to play Barnbougle Dunes (Tom Doak) and Lost Farms (Coore / Crenshaw) would not dissappoint.  There is a direct flight from Sydney to Launceston, and it would make for a great weekend trip.

Yes that is on the list. I’ll be over there a couple of times staying a bit longer as well bthought is to go to Tasmania and play cape wickham on the other island as well.

The Coast is near New South Wales

Long Reef, Mona Vale & Bayview are on the northern beaches 

Twin Creeks and Riverside Oaks in western Sydney 

 

There’s quite a few nice country courses if you want to make a weekend of it and accommodation is cheap 
 

Hunter Valley is also great as you can combine golf with wine. Vintage is a Norman course and Cypress Lakes used to be good
