Just bought these on eBay (Mizuno 245) - concerned on authenticity

Hi folks.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
 

I recently got my hcp down to a 7.5 (I was 15 bout a year ago) and decided to get a fitting as my current set was off the shelf (JPX 921 Forged, 950NEO stiff). I was getting better spin, launch, descent, with Mizuno 245 with Modus 120 stiff. I also learned that my specs aren't standard (I'm -1/4" and 1 degree flat) which is important. I was quoted around $1,700 after taxes for a new set which is a lot for me at this time as we're doing our wedding this year....

I found a used set on ebay with the correct shafts in standard configuration. My plan was to get the shafts shortened and lie adjusted. I made an offer and got them for around half the price of the brand new set.

The seller has positive reviews, but isn't an online golf store. Two things that I noticed after I submitted an offer:

- there are scratches on the sole of the scoring irons which seems odd given its a forged club

- the "mizunopro" text on the back looks to be filled in white

 

Can anyone provide their thoughts? I'm going to ask for serial numbers today as well.

Looks legit to me.  Scoring irons will get scratched more in play, especially with forged irons since they’re softer.

 

mine have white paint fill. That is how they are.

These look just like mine. Forged will still scratch especially if hit regularly off mats or waste areas.

Update:

Called Mizuno and told them the serial number.

They confirmed the exact specs of this irons, so they are absolutely authentic!

Hi, I’m just looking at getting a set of these off eBay also. Can you tell me where abouts the serial number is located on these irons? I have mp20 hmb’s and the serial number is located on the hotel, however the seller says it’s not there and may well be under the grip which seems odd. They look legit, but I’ve been done over in the past so any help appreciated

They don’t put serial numbers under the grips.  Will always be on the hosel of the head, typically on the 6 or 7 iron for an off the rack set and on every iron for a custom ordered set.

 

The fact that the pictured set has no visible serial number on the hosel is enough for me to recommend you avoid this set.
