Nippon GOST vs GD DI HY vs Ventus Blue HY vs KBS tour hybrid prototype in t150 3 iron (95 grams)

Recommended Posts

Hope everyone is doing well,

I currently have t150 3 iron on order and am gaming the t100 2021 in modus 120x. I can launch the modus 120x very well but I’m unsure what shaft to play in my 3 iron as I want it to go around 230-235 yards. Gaming tour ad xc 7x in my 5 wood stealth plus and it goes 245 yards. My driver SS is 105-108 depending on how I’m feeling. I want it to be a 5 wood replacement for windy conditions but still be able to hit it high if I want to. I thought about playing modus 105x in it but I feel like it would be hard to launch a 19 degree 3 iron in a steel shaft. The 4 shafts in the title are what I am considering at the moment. Any other shaft recommendations would be appreciated.

thanks for you input and time! Have a good day!

  • no.1kawhifan changed the title to Nippon GOST vs GD DI HY vs Ventus Blue HY vs KBS tour hybrid prototype in t150 3 iron (95 grams)

You’re looking for a specific gap and launch which means you need to go get fit. Not sure what else there is to say

Ventue Blue HB and DI HY will launch the highest of the group with mid spin.  GOST and KBS hybrid proto will launch slightly lower and spin will be similar to the other ones from the testing I've done.  This of course is swing dependent.  Besides all this, it's also important to pick the one that has good enough feel for you as well in terms of smoothness and kick as each one is different from another.  It would be best to get fitted of course.

Thank you so much! I like a smooth-feeling shaft as I'm playing the Modus 120X, might try the GOST or the Ventus blue 9x, seems to be a smooth-feeling shaft. If I was to get the Ventus blue 9x then I would not tip it at all and just butt cut as the torque is 2.0 whereas the others are 2.3-2.5. would you agree with this? My fitters back home don't do 3 iron fittings sadly. I have a tour ad di 95x in my 3 hybrid but I prefer my 5 wood in the XC 7x so I might try the ventus blue for a smoother feel

Tipping it would make it feel a bit more stout and possibly drop spin a bit as well so that decision is up to you.  Ventus Blue HB is on the smoother side.  GOST felt ok.  I have the KBS hybrid proto and it's not what I consider smooth, but it's not harsh/dead feeling either.

how would the tour ad di hybrid 95x compare to ventus blue 9x? thanks again I like smooth feeling shafts so maybe I go with the ventus

Ventus blue HB feels smoother than the DI HY, IMO.

I went down a similar path with my 3i (ZX5) that is also around that 235 yard club. I finally ended up with the Modus 105 and find that, for being a 3i, it is still plenty capable in terms of launch. I originally tried graphite, however, I found myself continuing to come back to steel purely from a feel perspective. I don't know if it was the lighter weight of the graphite or that my brain just simply expects steel-feel when I have an iron in-hand. To this day, I am still very intrigued by the GOST shaft as it "supposedly" has the best of both worlds (graphite and steel).

It's a tough spot in the bag to nail down and your personal preferences will have to play a major role in deciding. Even though I can't provide a thorough comparison of the shafts you listed, I wanted to add my two cents and suggest not automatically ruling out the Modus 105 just because its steel.

Demod DI and Gost for a hybrid fitting.

DI is softer butt and a little looser throughout.  Definitely the smoother shaft.

GOST just a little tighter but still has that midsoft into firm tip like Modus120.  GOST to me feels overall stiffer than Modus 120.

Given these are $$$ shafts, highly recommend hitting them first.

If you're playing 120 in your irons, Modus 105 are gonna feel different profile wise.

I have a modus 105x sitting around at home but I’m not sure, I have a tsr3 hybrid with a tour ad di 95x in it. Maybe I just go get another trusty tour ad di haha, the trusty tour ad di can never go wrong!
