Playing a 3HL as a 5 wood

Looking for some advice for the top of my bag. According to Arccos - I have a significant gap between my 3 wood and 4 hybrid. 
 

3 wood (Calaway Paradym X lofted down to 14) = 250 

4 hybrid- 205

 

I want to take advantage of the trade in bonus going on now at Callaway since I have some extra clubs laying around. I had a 5 wood in my cart but they are not adjustable but noticed the 3HL is.   It seems to me that buying the 3HL and lofting it up would give me a more flexible solution. Has anyone done something similar?

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Considering your 3W is playing at 14* and the 3HL being 16.5 (essentially a 4W), theoretically you could adjust it to 17.5 or 18.5 (5W loft).  This would get you the ~4* loft gap that should put you in the right ballpark to fill that yardage gap.  However, I’ve not played Callaway fairways and can’t speak on how turning the loft up that much affects the face angle.  

Also, are you a drawer or a fader?  If you’re a fader, I’d say go for it!  If you’re a drawer I’d say pump the breaks until you hear from more Callaway users as you may be putting a hook machine in your bag?

 

Or just get the 5w and call it a day 🤣

Adding loft to a 3HL would also add some draw bias, but with the same length shaft as your 3wd there might not be that big a distance gap. One sleeper club Callaway make is their Super Hybrid. A 19* in that might just be the ticket and it’s adjustable.

Oh ya, super hybrid and the UW both. Callaway has a ton of options for that spot. 

 

I would be a little cautious of a 3HL next to a 3 wood since a lot of people around your approximate swing speed and lower find a 4 or 5 wood to hit just as far or farther than their 3 wood. You could have it shortened though too. I have a 5 wood at 7 wood length to gap nicely personally.
