Project X Flighted (the OG ones) Real Life Experience Question

Hi all-

 

I grabbed a set of P760s as a back up.  Wonderful shape, had to have them.

 

They have PX 5.5 Flighted shafts in them.

 

Historically, I have played 6.0 PX and s400.  Recently, I had a massive knee injury and downgraded all of my woods to stiff from x-stiff.  I have also been playing DG S300 120s with success in my irons.  I don't know my post injury swing speed...

 

I have read all the tech info on this board I can possibly consume.  But the bottom line question is do those really play that soft to flex in the real world? The party line is these "feel" soft to flex but I have seen a few comments about real world experience that don't really support that they are any more flexible.  What should I believe?

 

I would have been perfectly comfortable sliding down to a standard PX 5.5.  Will I be okay in the Flighted 5.5?

You will definitely be okay in the Flighted 5.5's. I play 6.5's right now but for a long time before I knew anything about shaft fitting and fitting in general, I played Flighted 5.5s in Idea Pro Gold irons and loved them. I noticed that if I really went after one, the left miss was always in play but I loved the flight of them all around.

Long irons are going to be very light compared to what you're used to. Try to stay smooth with your tempo on the longer irons to avoid turning it over as mentioned above.

Probably good for me tempo! 

 

Ugh, wishing I had bought something with standard 5.5 PX.  I am comfortable with the regular px shafts I would rather leave well enough alone.

These will be fine. The 5.5 flighted shafts aren't overly soft in terms of flex. Those who say they feel soft to flex likely feel this way due to the shaft profile. I've heard others say that they feel firm to flex. At the end of the day, they aren't far out from your wood shafts in terms of cpm and are probably an especially nice option as you recover from surgery.

IME, No. 

 

When it comes to soft-to-flex, most people waggle and assume soft-to-flex; most of the time it's baloney.  I played PX 6.0 and PX Flighted 6.0 for 15+ years.  For the longest time, I had Flighted 6.0 in my 2i-5i, and standard PX 6.0 in 6i-PW.  PX 6.0 & 5.5 flighted are descending weight shafts, meaning flighted 6.0 PW was lightest at 117.5g and 3i was 128g.  I still have my sets in storage...flighted are great shafts.

 

If they are comfortable to you, play them.
