Classic Ping drivers...

Who remembers the old Ping Si3 Driver from back in the day? I had this in my bag 20 years ago, and could drive the <expletive> with it. I could draw the ball, I could fade the ball, etc.. But as with life, wear and tear took its toll and played a major part, and it was replaced.

Remember these? By today's standards, this would be (in cc volume) almost a 3W LOL!!! 😎

I had one, had a Grafaloy Blue on it. Played two rounds with it and ditched it. Now if you want to talk about a superb Ping driver from the past, The Ping Anser was a howitzer. I hit one from 2013 to 2019 had a Hzrdous black smoke 60 on it the last few years. A G400max with the same shaft took it out of the bag.

I have a 9 degree one of these I picked up in a group of clubs. Of course the weight or isolator in the back has fallen out. Not sure if it’s that isomer insert missing or if it’s the design but it plays like a 9 degree club. Very low flight and also from the era when they all sounded so weird and you could tell the manufacturer bye the sound. Get over the flat top look and could game it easily after getting used to it. If heard these fairways are pretty good.

I bought an Anser Driver from Golf Galaxy when I turned 60. It had the stock shaft in senior flex and is 12 degrees loft. I still have it and occasionally bring it out. A fine driver.

I think they called it the Ping IST Titanium driver. I use to hit some bombs with that one.

Are you referring to the TiSI? The original Black Toaster of Death?

My ‘black toaster of death’!? Love the nickname, had never heard it before. Picked this up cheap to go with my most rad pings set. Don’t actually know much about it.

Ah, so you have the TiSI Tec, the second model, based on the original. There's a fun story behind it...

The original TiSI got a lot of positive buzz, but some thought it spun too much, especially with the higher spin golfballs of the time. Ping created the TiSI Tec to help counter that.

It created a problem for people familiar with the original. The new Tec spun less, so people needed to hit it higher, but too many folks couldn't wrap their heads around what they needed to do (possibly ego driven). People coming from the 8.5* TiSI would likely need to use the 10* TiSI Tec, but may not actually buy that; Ping's response was to add this "ET" label, which means "effective trajectory."

Short version: ET 8.5* is a 10* clubhead. 🙂
