Need some help from the experts reguarding my clubmaker and tip trimming

Would this change improve my results??

Hey guys wondering if you could help my through this situation and hopefully save me so cash. IM new to clubmaking termonlogy so bear with me.

I bought a Nickent 4dx 10.5 degree driver. I read where its actually a little lower launch head than most and somewhat low spin. (which Im looking for)

I decided to put a Pershing 65 stiff flex in it to also lower launch and spin. (MY SS is around 107-112ish)



So I had my local club maker install the shaft and cut it down to get it to play at 44.5 inches. I take it out to the course and I am hitting hit very high, higher than I would like also hitting a lot of hook with it. Ive used it about 3 rounds now with similar results. I noticed on Graphite design website that at standard bore (which I believe the 4dx is please correct me if Im wrong) you should tip 1 inch. That got me thinking so I decided to call my clubmaker and he said he did not tip it at all.

So my questions are.......

1. If I get this shaft tipped 1 - 1.25 inches will that help lower my ballflight?

2. I assume if he does tip it, that will shorten the shaft and an extension will be needed to be put on the butt end. Will this negativly effect shaft performace? How much longer could I go?

Any help is appreciated on this guys it could save me from buying another $400 driver if this solution would work. Thanks.

he should replace the shaft as tipping it properly would leave it short by 1 inch and a shaft extension would be necessary.

 

you could try it with the tipping and the extension to see if it suits.its an excellent shaft in the right hands!

At your SS you probably should have gone with an X flex and still that should be tipped at least 1 inch. You could as the previous poster mentioned, pull the shaft tip it 1 1/2 inches, add an extension and try it before you go crazy to see if it will work for you. You were certainly on the right track with the shaft choice.

If the clubmaker supplied and installed the shaft but it sounds like the OP brought in the shaft himself. I have guys bring in all manner of weird shafts, often japanese ones, and I'm not an expert in those. I do the best I can with figuring out the tip trimming but if it's your shaft, I don't guarantee playablity.
