Consistent on the toe side of center

Hi Folks!

I have a new set of irons and a coiupel of new woods. I've been hitting them well for the most part on the range and in a dome close to where I live.

But I have noticed that I hit all my clubs in the same spot, not in the center of the face, but just a little bit to the toe of the club. I have it consistently, I have impact tape on the irons, and they are consistent, just to the toe side of center. It might explain where my 10 yards I lost are!

My irons are 1" over standard length, woods are all standard length, and they feel great. Could it be my clubs are too long, not upright enough, or is it my swing? Any hints, or way that I can tell what my problem is?

I know I may need to see a specialized club fitter, but I have had the same specs for a while, and I am hitting the ball well. But, I can't find a club fitter in my area, other than the usual chain stores, and my swing could easily be the problem.

Any help or ideas are appreicated!

I would definitely think it has to do with the lie angle I can't remember whether that means too upright or flat though but I do remember that 10 yds. sounds about right on the yardage loss. I'm sure someone who knows for sure will chime in if not bump it back up tomorrow or PM me and I will make a phone call to see which it is.

i think people who swing slightly across themselves/over the top make toe contact. also, you might just be standing too far from the ball. if it was only poor contact with the irons, id think that the irons might be too long for you at +1"

I know an over the top swing can cause toe hits, but I'm not sure that lie angle causes toe hits.

 

Can anyone confirm lie angle and contact toward the toe of the club is related?

I don't believe the lie angle has anything to do with where you are hitting it on the face. It is either coming from your swing (over the top does typically produce a toe hit) or the length/swingweight of your clubs.

 

I would make a trip to a professional fitter. Short of that try gripping down to various degrees and check impact on the face. Usually too long produces heel hits, but this is not always the case.

I have been working really hard on the swing recently, and the ball goes straight. I will have to find out if I am over the top or not.

 

As to club fitting, does anyone know a great club fitter around Columbus, Ohio?

Could be as simple as losing your spine angle coming through. I know that some days my swing looks and feels fine, but if I don't stay committed through the shot and pull my head up, it's really easy to catch it on the toe.

That is what i do, pick my head up too quickly and then i get a toe shot (Outside in of Target line).

 

Keep head down and keep eye on ball through impact and it has helped me with the toe hitting problem.
