higher launch/low spin shaft for 425 tp

the shaft 'ho' in me is starting to emerge

just like the title says. i currently have a TM r7 425 tp 9.5* with a UST V2 66g S-Flex shaft, which i'm pretty content with, but i seem to get a good bit of spin with it. in fact last time i was on a launch monitor it said i was getting somewhere between 3500-3700 rpms, which is a bit much for me. also when i'm on the course, even when i hit fades, i seem to hit the ball a bit low, which i usually don't mind, but if i can get it to maybe a mid-low, to mid launch, with less spin, that would be ideal, and i'd get a bit more roll and carry. as far as swing stats and all that jibberish, here it is:

avg. SS: 103 mph smooth tempo
avg. driver carry: 245-255 yds
avg. total driver distance: 260-275 yds.

any help would be appreciated. oh, and i'm a broke college student, so anything under 125 bucks would be preferred, but if there is a shaft that i ABSOLUTELY have to try that's a bit more than that, then i may consider that too.

Accra SC , Accra XC, i personally play an XC in my D2, great high bombs with nice roll-out at landing. Should also feel a ton smoother than a V2 (never liked those shafts).

 

 

If your on a budget could always try a Grafalloy ProLaunch Platinum, I think you can get one new for like 90$ from most retailers.

I know this doesn't fit the budget, but if you can find an Altus pull you have to try it. I'm playing the 425/Altus combo and it's deadly. You can't beat the Altus for high launch/low spin.

Try the Graffalloy Red, and don't tip it. Great shaft for the money. You can probably get a cheap pull on ebay or somewhere.

Grafalloy Epic is a great shaft that fits that category. Another shaft they say is high launch and low spin is the Harrison Mugen which can be had for less than a Cnote

thanks for the suggestions guys. right now i've narrowed it down to either a harrison, or looking for a used altus or accra on the bay or on here. but what are your guys' thoughts on fuji shafts? are there any that are higher launch/lower spin for a smooth swing tempo? also whatever shaft i put in, i'm going to cut it to a length of around 44"

But I would rather change Loft and head if you want to change to high launch low spin.. Shaft have no substantial effect they effect spin more than anything.. but the type of head you use is much more of a factor..

 

better find the head suitable and get a shaft that feel great to you. you spend much less.

i have the tour hybrid shaft in my halo and it works great for me, it does spin a bit though, which is good for a hybrid, but definitely not for a driver, i dont know the spin numbers but for the feel of the shaft and the price point i would recommend it to anyone

pl red is a higher spin shaft. my swing speed is real similar and i spin the ball a lot too. i also needed a higher launch shaft as well ---> speeder 686 = great call

well, i've hit 8.5 drivers before and like i said, i launch the ball low already, but when i get anything above a 10*, my spin rates skyrocket. i went on a launch monitor the other day after working out somethings on my swing and was able to get the spin down a bit. but it's not just the spin and launch, it's the feel. when i first got the V2, i really liked it a lot, and still do, but sometimes i just don't like the feel of it, and as my swing is getting a little more aggressive (more speed), it sometimes feels just a little soft and i tend to lose it to the right, so what i'd really like is a shaft that maybe plays just a hair stiffer than its flex.

Most likely with such a kind of spin, its highly possible that your hand is too much ahead of the club like me.. kinda deloft , yet open at impact.. thus Low launch . high spin combo. and the ball is more of a CUT than a draw.. I had corrected that and my spin is waaayyyy down.

 

So... i would suggest, try to get hold of a few things above and try it in 10.5 .. i trust the spin would go way down.. then fit the shaft you like..

I like finding a head that feels good and has similar launch charateristics to wat i want, but am not overly bothered with it apart from it feeling good as I know I can find a shaft that will fit it. I agree with most of the posts on here, i think what you'll have to do is just do test trials - its as good as it will get haha. Try and find somewhere where u can try a head with a heap of different shafts (ala a Callaway fitting centre). First test the driver with the same shaft in it as now so that you'll know the differences - then find a shaft that still launches high and drops your spin rates. That's as good as I can do for you mate ;)

yeah it's weird, i used to hit a fade that went nowhere, then when i changed my swing, i could only hit draws. now that i've gotten more into my swing, i hit draws with all of my clubs, but hit mid launch fades with my driver. but i can draw if need be. my drivers clubface is 1* open though, so is the fact that it's fading mean that i'm hitting it "square"? if you guys know what i mean? anyways i appreciate all the help, but i don't really think i'll be changing the head, i just love it too much, but i do have an idea now of what kind of shaft i'm going to get, thanks for all the help guys.

Accuflex Creation might be what you're looking for. Stiff tip and low-mid kickpoint. They can be had for a reasonable price since it's discontinued (but there is a new creation coming out soon, i think...)

I second the accuflex creation. Solid feeling shaft that can be found for about a hundo if you look at the right time on ebay.
