If you want to talk best golf in Pittsburgh i saw you included Laurel Valley which really isnt in Pittsburgh so here are a few ........

Mystic Rock.. Dye course at Nemocolin Woodlands , Old Stonewall in the Cranberry area , Toms Run at Chestnut Ridge , and there seems to be some CC's with a lot of tradition that dont get much talk like Pittsburgh Field Club .. and there is a Gary Player design in the North Hills that i cant remember the name that i thought was really good it's private though also ...

I agree Quicksilver is nice.

Played Cranberry Highlands the other day. In nice shape and a nice layout....kind of easy but worth checking out.

Nice yes.... but not for $65.00 ....... i thought Deer Run which i believe is now called Pittsburgh National was a better layout , harder and less expensive is a better choice but thats my opinion which is worth about $ .02 cents ... or less ;)

I agree, Deer Run is much better layout. It wasn't in great shape last time I played it...but I hear it is improved this year. I played Cranberry mid-week during the off-season. I had no idea it is that expensive.

For privates other than Oakmont (which is amazingly special) the best privates are Fox Chapel CC and Pittsburgh Field Club. For public Olde Stonewall is the way to go. You can also drive a little over an hour and play Pete Dye GC.

You got to add Longue Vue in there. The big 4 clubs that have the matches against each other are; Oakmont, Longue Vue, Pittsburgh Field Club, and Fox Chapel Club.

I recently played both Birdsfoot and the Links at Spring Church.

Birdsfoot's layout is great and is my favorite in the region (excluding Olde Stonewall and Mystic Rock). The staff is also very nice. And when I started to play there, 2-3 years ago, the conditions were as great as the layout. However, conditions have gone downhill since. The greens are very "bumpy" and the traps don't have enough sand in them... :russian_roulette:

The Links at SC is not as impressive in terms of layout, but ends up being a more enjoyable course, given its good conditions. I always enjoy playing that course. It is one hour east of Pittsburgh, but if you don't mind the drive, it's worth it!

I am a pittsburgh native, and the public courses that I enjoy most are

Cranberry Highlands - whith the weekday junior waking it only costs me $20

For a challenge you guys might want to try the back nine of Aubreys GC, the back nine is appparaently the 2nd hardest nine in PA. I shot a 37 on the front nine (easy as crap) and a 43 on the back (with a 6 putt on the 2nd hole). The reason the back is so chalanging is because it was baisically carved out of the woods, and the greens are extremely fast and built like mounds.

Highland Country Club has to be one of my favorite courses ever.

If you are on a tight bugget Pittsburgh North is decent.
