I GOT THE SHANKS!!!!

:birthday: I am shanking horribly recently. Last night at the range, not one shot went straight. EVERYTHING is being shanked. This is embarrasing !!!

It's not the clubs it's me and I don't know what to do!!!?????

Any one have any pointers to rid me? Is there a magical pill I can take?

I think most of use can say we occaisionally get the shanks now again, even though many would not admit it.

 

Personally if they appear for me, I'm usually swinging mainly with the arms and not the body.

 

In simple terms with the take away all wrong it just happens.

 

Usual cure is to focus on starting the swing by turning your right shoulder first away from the ball......

 

I'm sure Slicefixer has a much better cure, so drop him a PM.

I agree with getting advice from slicefixer. Personally when I get the shanks it is usually with wedges. I try to hit balls standing as close to the ball as I possibly can. It might not be the correct way of fixing it, but it works for me.

Try to play the ball off of the toe of the club you should see that you are hitting the ball closer to the face and play it that way until you start hitting it off of the toe consistently. That might be a fix for you.

80 yards in has always been my worst enemy, with the exception of putting thankfully. I've been trying very hard to figure out ways to turn that around but so far no luck. I'm gonna try that tomorrow and see if that helps, seems I remember a friend of mine who has a great short game suggesting that same thing some time back.

I got the shanks today as well. I was just at the rang hitting random club combos, Driver-Wedge, Fairway wood to a shot/mid iron, etc. and then I went to hit a wedge and pow. Four or five in a row and then They just went away. Wierd game. :birthday:

when i get them, i go to the range and hit balls w/my left arm only (rh golfer)...mentally, you generally don't expect much for a shot using this drill, but when you start striping them, you get that much more of a positive mental boost...

Hey all,

 

thanks to all for their input and suggestions. My shanks have since disappeared and the cause was too much tension in my grip and arms as well as an off tempo.

 

It has since been fixed and I found my Big Easy / Vijay like swing is coming back!
