Rick Barry is a long drive champion

Rick Barry, yes that Rick Barry, the Hall-of-Famer, is on the Krank Long Drive Team. I didn't even know what Krank Golf was until I saw a comment about it in a recent topic post. I was just blown away, the guy is 6'8" and has a recorded clubhead speed of 145 mph, he's not the longest guy on the team by any stretch of the imagination, but he is 60+, and it's still incredible and unbelievably random.

Why so surprised? The guy is an athlete...I would expect his skills to cross over into something else.

BTW, being 60 y/o does not necessarily equate to being dead. :)

I remember watching Rick Barry drive golf balls in the late seventies.

He was hitting 300 yard drives with a 44" steel shaft persimmon driver and balata golf balls.

In those days nobody hit it 300, but he did it.

It was rare, but don't say nobody. Mike Austin was hitting 350+ routinley with persimmon and balata's, and there is always the famous 515 yarder he hit at age 64. Which a lot of people don't believe, and it really doesn't matter if you do or not. The fact that the man had an average swing speed recorded at 145 and a max at 160 goes to show that with a 27mph tail wind (which he had), he could have easily hit it that far. I have heard James Braid circa 1908 had a record drive of 398 with hickory shaft and gutta percha.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but I had to put that out there since you said "nobody".
