Sumo 5000 Reshaft

I just purchased a Sumo 5000 with 8.5 degrees loft. It has a V2 regular shaft because I thought I might be able to get a little more distance out of a regular. My clubhead speed is 98-100 with a driver and I usually hit everything pretty high. Any suggestions on shafts that would keep the flight down without losing a lot of distance. Ive been debating on throwing in a VS Proto.I have that in another driver and it feels and goes good for me.

If your VS Proto is in another std bore style head, you should be good to go. The VS is pretty controlled in the tip section so should produce a reasonable ballflight given the limitations of how a shaft can affect flight.

Pershing is MUCH better than a VS Proto for reducing spin and keeping launch at a good angle.

If you look at the profiles, there's nothing to suggest the Pershing is any better at controlling spin compared the VS.

Middle reference line is 757s. Top two lines are VS Proto 65s and NV75s. Bottom is Pershing 75s. The VS and NV are considerably stiffer in the tip than the 757 and the Pershing. Mind you the Pershing was designed to be tipped into a standard bore so the difference is not as pronounced as shown. Differences in hosel configuration can make any of these shafts play quite differently from head to head.

No idea what that graph is trying to say and I may be wrong but it looks like the Pershing and the VS are polar opposites. For me (117 mph swing speed), every VS Proto I've played had way too much spin. I bought a tour issue Hibore XL tour 8.5 which is one one of the lowest spinning heads made and it came with the VS proto 80X and it managed to make that head spin over 3,000 rpm. I now have a Pershing 75x in the same head and the spin is under 2,300 rpm. It's now almost as good as my tour issue HAMMER! :russian_roulette:

Dyno's right on this one. Shafts can only change launch angle by a max of 3*....The NV and VS Proto are some of the best shafts for what Kong is suggesting.

The T/B ratio averages done by Hireko show that the VS Proto's low/mid ballflight can be achieved with a lighter weight than even an Aldila NV.

Ex. Aldila NV in 65 g. stiff plays similar in Torque and Tip/Butt Deflections to the VS Proto's 60g shaft. The only Pershing with a mid/high kickpoint is in an X flex.

If your swing is a middle tempo without knowing what causes you're high launch you actually fit pretty well into an Aldila NV 75 in reg.(stiff if you have a fast swing tempo), a Pro Launch Red in Regular or Stiff tempo depending again going by T/B ratio. Both were found to have lower T/B ratios(stiff tips) (sub 2.0).

I put an 85g NV in my Sumo 5000 and I hit the ball very low with it....10* launch angle most of the time.
