ProV1/ProV1X Spin?

After reading the recent Golf Ball Test in Golf magazine, I'm confused on their findings. They list that the latest (seamless style) ProV1X ball has more spin off the driver, 8-iron and sand wedge than the latest (seamless style) ProV1. The test used a 10.5 degree driver with regular shaft if that matters. Did Titleist redesign these balls? I always thought the ProV1X had less spin than the ProV1. Also the distance between the 2 balls was less than 2 yards off the driver. Any comments? Thanks.

The V1X is designed for higher speed players to reduce spin off the driver and increse distance, however these tests are normally done at 90mph SS where very little differences will be found. I think if a test was done at 120mph the v1x would spin quite a bit less and go a good 10-15 yards further than the v1

I've seemed to have more success with the ProV1. I just did another test with the two balls yesterday and liked the 1 better than the +. The 1 just seemed to go a little longer for me. I have a 107ss and a 2 hcp. For your reference and of course this just my experience!

So did it just "seem" to go longer or did it really go longer?

I agree with your findings. I'm a 4 handicap and hit the 8 iron 150, 4 iron 200, and the driver 260-280 depending on conditions. I don't know my swing speed. I seem to score better with the ProV1 as the softer feel just gives me assurance around the greens. I get the sensation of more distance with the X because it's firmer, but in reality there is very little. I asked the original question because I figured the lower spin ball would tend to be better in the wind, and when I err off the driver it is too high a ball flight.

I definitely like the 1 over the x. I really value soft feel with my iron shots since we actually play the irons twice as much as the driver (22 shots vs. 12 normally) and only about 30% less than the putter when you consider all of the chips/short pitch shots with irons. Also the 1's soft feel for the finesse pitch/chip shots is worth a few stroke for me. The x does seam to be less affected by the wind since it travels a little lower and it does roll out more for me but it's not worth the iron play feel and green side feel and control in my opinion.

I actually was fitted for a driver with both a ProV1 and ProV1x. I have a 105 swing speed and the x definitely had much less spin off the driver. I also do not see as much balooning in the wind either. I used to play the ProV1, but have switched to the x now. I also tend to put more spin on my irons as well.
