Better to stick with your clubs or change regularly?

A lot of you guys seem to be changing your clubs every year. I have had the same irons and 3w for about the last 3 or 4 years and don't have any intention to change any time soon.

I have tried other irons: Mizuno's and TM RAC but I feel comfortable sticking with what I know. I do have a few drivers and have used different putters. I also interchange between a 2i and a 5w depending on how I'm swinging.

I reckon it's better to find some Irons you're happy with and use them until they're done. Maybe y'all just got too much money.

Not really, we jest love new golf clubs. To me, equipment is one of the great things of golf.

I have to agree with you on the sticking with clubs, I love checking out new clubs, but once I find somethiong I like I stick with it for a long time. I find I am that way with alot of things in life.. I stuck with the same 3 wood irons and putter for a long time, and didnt change, my Driver being the ony thing I havent got comfortable with one yet. Once I play with clubs for a while, I geet acustomed to them and dont like to change, because I know what those clubs will do for me. about 2 years ago I bought some Callaways, which just didnt get comfortable to me, and I have now moved on to Titleist 735's and I think they aint leavin for a long time!!

I bought new irons in 2005 and again this year. Prior to that, I had my irons since 1999.

Just couldn't get the distances down with the new irons last year, so made this change.

Hope to keep these for several years if I feel comfortable with 'em.

I change putters alot, but plan to stick with this 2 ball blade...for now.

Have had my 3 wood for 4 years....driver for 2

I don't have a problem changing drivers or maybe even a 3 wood because for the most part, you are trying to get the most distance out of those two clubs. I can see changing wedges too as you may need more or less spin. But when it comes to irons and putters, unless you simply have a set that doesn't fit your game, there is absolutely no need to change. I've got my distances dialed in and have had confidence from day one with them. To me, a putter is a putter is a putter....... I don't believe technology can have a great effect on something that only moves 2 feet. Just my .02 (cool)

I've owned 7 sets of irons since 1999  . And believe it or not, my game has not gotten any better (cool)

I've come to believe time is better spent practicing vs. "researching" the latest and greatest clubs, but I think we all know that. The clubs I own right now are more than adequate and I'm sticking with them until I can become convinced that they are the problem. Right now the problem is I haven't practiced my short game in over two years

Just look inside the bags of some tour pros, How many still play/ed Eye2's? If it was not for the $$$ and new contracts I beleive many of the best players in the world would not change that often! Me personally, I have played the same irons, looking for soemthing new but don't think it will happen, since 95 same fiarway wood since 2000 and the same putter as long as I can remember. Now driver that is a different story all together, wonder what the weak part of my game is huh??

It depends.

Driver/Woods - It seems difficult for me to find something that works consistently in terms of a head/shaft combination, but once I find it.......I tend to stick with it for 2-3 years until a new iteration of the product is better.

Irons - I love to demo irons, but once I find a set, I stick with it for generally about 3-5 years. However - I've really been rotating and selling/buying a lot of backup/testing irons lately.

Wedges - I don't like to switch wedges too often. I've only played 2 different pairs of wedges in my 8 golfing years. As with irons - backups are another story! (cool)

Putter - I've sold/bought many CAmeron putters lately, but they've been all backups or projects. My gamer has been in my bag for 3 years, and my previous gamer was in the bag for 5 years. I don't like to switch putters often, but I DID buy a 34" identical putter to my gamer (35") that I'm experimenting with.

OTOH - I have several individual clubs that I buy/trade/sell just to try them out at the range. I'm very impulsive with these, but they are NOT my gamers.

i generally stick w/what i get...i just bought a new driver this year bc the clubface on my old one was collapsing after 7 years of use...have the same putter i bought i'm guessing 10 years ago...replaced the fairway woods bc the 5 wd broke at the hosel (it was an old persimmon hogan) and i replaced the 3wd, (bb warbird), which all the sudden i just couldn't hit...i'm saving for new irons now...

When I find clubs I like I stick with them, but I like to mess around with a backup bag to try new stuff and to have something on hand if some buddies come sans clubs and we want to play.

I reckon a change can be a bad thing sometimes.

I'm on my 6th set of irons in 20 years (my last set of Mizunos lasted 5 years) which isn't bad to say I've always played forged irons, except for a stint with beryllium Eye 2s.

Drivers tend to stay for a while too. My current driver's been in a year, the 975J before that lasted two, and the 975D stayed for 3 or so.

3 woods tend to be a comfort club for me. I used the same one from 1992 until late last year, when I changed to my current one.

Wedges tend to wear out pretty quick for me. I change them every year or so, letting the snd club in particular get pretty beat up before it goes. Always been a 588/Vokey man, the Clevelands since 1988, and the Vokeys the last few years in the main.

Putters I do chop and change a bit, although there's definite Anser/Newport feel to my arsenal. Sometimes, I imagine I'm Tom Watson and the old Pal gets an outing...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Except putters.

It depends. I generally stick with my equipment for a while.

Irons- I have had my Irons since the beggining of Summer 04', i am getting new irons for this spring because i have worn them out. I dont change my irons bc i make educated decisions before i purchase them and get them custom fitted. I make sure i like my irons before i purchase them. The only reason i am geting new ones is because the grooves are starting to go on the old ones.

Woods- I usually get a new driver at the beggining of the season or when a new one i really want comes out. I got my 905T at the beggining of last summer and am goin to get the new 905R at the start of this season. I got my 3wd in the fall and am very pleased with it so i wont be changing it too soon.

Wedges- i change when the grooves and bounce go...and theyre gone so im getting new wedges this spring as well/

Putter- I have a few camerons but i stick to my Scotty Newport 2 Pro plat... it is custom fitted and weighted just to my likeing. I may get a couple new scotty's but i will most likely stick to the one i have.

Change is about preferece. I only change irons/ wedges when they get worn.... drivers woods putters etc change when something newer and better comes out.

I just put my Callaway War Bird 3 wood back in my bag. This club is 10 year old (with a new shaft) - but I can hit it anytime and anyplace and jsut as long as anything else I've tried.
