Diamana BB x vs. Rombax z708 x
Well here is the deal. I had a Diamana BB 83x in my Cleveland Comp 8.5 driver that I was hitting really well and long for about 2 years. Well I think the shaft experienced break down which in AZ shafts have a tendancy to do because of the heat. I started balooning everything and when I went to the PGA SS and got on there monitors, sure enough. 110 mph SS, 16 launch and 3900 RPM's. So I figured I would make a shaft change. After researching alot I bought a Rombax z708 tour x-stiff off a member on here(great deal btw) and put it in my comp playing at 44 7/8" HOLY CRAP I am hitting it higher than my BB and about 15 yards shorter. It has great feel, but feels way too light and no mater what I do with ball position tee hight what ever, it goes a mile high.
So to compare it I pulled out the FS2 driver with an x stiff V2 shaft I recently bought and definately hit it farther, when I really go after it. The thing about the FS2 is I have to swing perfect or I hit HUGE power fades that are way short.
What I am wondering is, What shaft should I try now? I thought the Rombax z series was a high kick point low spin shaft, but that does not seem to be the case. I love the comp head and was killing it a few months ago, but ever since my BB shaft went south, I am curious what I might try. Thanks for any suggestions.

The weight is not so much of a concern as how high i am hitting the ball with the rombax. Dont get me wrong, the shaft feels great, its just not feeling right to me. I do like the BB, I was just looking for something to bring the ball down a bit. I want a more boring flight than what the BB gives me. I may just end up trying the white if I can find one. Was just wondering if there might be something else I should try.

Obviously, i would suggest trying the whiteboard 83X, that should bring ball flight and spin down quite a bit. Other than that maybe an F7M2 LTD, again that will KILL the excess spin but it is a beast of a shaft and extremely anti-left. Other options are VTLT, VT80, PL red tour. Or just get a new BB 83X if that was a good fit.

BTW, are you sure the shaft is the issue and your swing hasnt changed slightly as i have not herd of shafts deteriorating in the desert heat, that really should not affect them at all ????????

1. What is the lenght w/ BB and what is the lenght w/ Rombax Z?

2. What is the swingweight before and after?

3. Is the BB the 350" tip one or 335"?

4. Who installed the BB and is it tipped?

5. Is the Z installed shimmed?

Other than that, the only comment i can say is...A certain shaft spec set up might change a little of your swing mechanic.

I did have the BB shaft frequency tested and it was definately playing softer than an x-stiff and I have had 3 different club fitters say that shafts do break down in the heat here, especially if you leave the clubs in your car which i tend to do. The stock Fujikura that came in the comp went from an x to R/S in less than a year. I was told you can tell when you feel the tip getting softer over time. What shaft is the VTLT? I know the F7M2 is an Ozik right?

1. Length of the club with the BB is 45" even, Length with the rombax is 44 7/8'

2. Swing weight of the BB was D1-D2, Swing weight of the Rombax came out D0-D1

3. The BB tip was .350 going into a .350 head on the comp.

4. The BB was installed be a certified club fitter who was recommended by a couple buddies who are Pro's at local golf courses.

5. The Rombax is a .335 tip so yes it is shimmed.

As far as the mechanics go, I really havn't changed my swing at all. The Rombax definately felt a little lighter and I dont feel it kick. It just seems that no matter where I play the ball in my stance it goes way up. The ball doesn't baloon, it just goes way too high for what I want. I am tending to think it was not tipped and was cut at the butt end. I was told it came out of a Burner TP.

are you sure you purchased the North American/US version of the Rombax Z and not the JDM version? they're pretty much polar opposites in terms of profile with the NA/US version being the high kickpoint, low torque, tip stiff one and the JDM version being a mid kick, high torque shaft (not sure of the tip stiffness though).

How do you tell the difference? I am pretty sure it is US. I bought it from a guy on here. One thing I thought of is that it plays at 44.5" and I am 6'5" with a pretty steep swing so I am wondering if that loss of a half inch is making me catch it way to much on the upswing. I have changed ball position in my stance, but still hit it way too high. Plus it is a Tour Extra Stiff so I should play a little stiffer you would think. I am tending to think me an Fujikura shafts do not get along at all.

i don't know why fuji would make two completely different versions and give them the same name and not sure how to tell the difference outside of profiling the shaft. perhaps ask the member you purchased it from?
