Louisville Ky Golf

where to play

Will be going to Louisville on business in late Nov. so booked my flight 4 days early to play a few rounds in the Louisville area. Will have a rental car so any courses that are worthwhile in the general area will do. Would like to try Valhalla, but not sure about getting on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I hate to say it but Louisville public golf is horrible. Nevel Meade is a nice course on the east side of town. North of downtown across the river there is Covered Bridge and Champions Pointe. Id say those are your top 3 best picks.

Well, not necessarily 'horrible', but not exactly good either for public play!

 

Of the public muni's, Seneca gets the most play & is a good enough test, but again a muni with ALOT of play. Shawnee is another decent muni close to the Ohio River.

 

I agree that Nevel Meade, Covered Bridge & Champions Pointe (both Fuzzy built courses) are perhaps your best choices but there's also Quail Chase in south L'ville with 27 holes or Glen Mary (a former private club) and if you don't mind a 30 minute drive across the river in SW Indiana, there's Chariot Run which is the Harrah's River Boat Casino course. Indian Springs is a decent course but I don't care for it because the houses & apartments are built far too close.

 

The rest are only if you have no other options. I have a club I belong to so I haven't played any of these in a couple of years now except Quail Chase last week in an outing.

 

P.S. Be prepared for weather that may be all over the place at the time of your visit!

I have been doing some looking, and the Lexington area seems to have a better selection for public play. That is a option. I don't mind doing a bit of driving, if there is any better area worth looking at. Thanks..

Here's a link to a local website with reviews (some new, some not) on most courses in and around the L'ville area.

KY Golf Courses

 

I've also heard from friends that Olde Stone near Bowling Green, KY is a great course to play, but BG is a good 2 hrs south.

Sultan's Run is a very good course in Indiana about 1.5 hrs west of L'ville. Also @ 1.5 hrs NE in Independence, KY (just south of Cincy) are the Courses of Kenton County and I like Fox Run the best there.

 

Hell if you want, I'll offer you to play as a guest on my course (Big Spring), ......with the catch that you'll pick up your guest fee ($65 wkdy, $90 wknd).

Thanks for the offer Mark, very much appreciated. I might take you up on the offer, but I think I might wait to make some bookings before I leave so I can see the forecasts. I usually go there every year in late Nov. and the weather has been no problem, but this might be the year that the weather doesn't cooperate. Thanks again.

Heritage Hill is a good pick. Public course that opened last year. Probably the nicest public course in the Louisville area. It is about 20 minutes south of downtown Louisville so it is not a bad drive either.

PLENTY of great golf within an hour of town.

 

Nevel Meade is as well kept in November as any high end Private club.

Play it ! It's a fun day on a very nice course.

 

Fuzzy Zoellers Covered Bridge course just across the Ohio River bridge in Southern Indiana is another great course and after November 1 it's a great bargain under $40.00

 

An hour away up I-71 is Lassing Point in Union Ky. It's one of the top three rated courses in Ky and well worth the drive up.
