kbs tour fitting help

Recommended Posts

I just got some used Nakashima NP-1 Irons but someone put apollo shafts in them and I am wanting to put some KBS tours in them but from what I hear they are hard to fit for. I have played s400 and s300 for years and I love the feel of them so whatever "flex" they are is good. I saw someone say something about how your swing can affect the shaft loading and what shaft you need and stuff. Is there anyway you could help me pic the flex shaft and how to put them in (tipping and stuff) so it will fit my game. Here are my trackman results with my Mizuno MP-57 std length s300 shafts std loft. [Club Spec's] 5iron- club speed- (92.7) attack angle( -3.1) club path- (5.6) vert swing plane (50.4) horiz swing plane (3.0) [Launch Specs] ball speed (129.5) smash (1.40) vert angle (15.0) horiz angle (1.3) spinrate (4946) max height (30.5) [Landing specs] Carry (193) Landing Angle (43.5) I can also put a video up on youtube if that would help.

Any help is appreciated.

Not sure if this matters but I hit 12-15 greens a round at a +2.8 hcp and next year i am going to start playing some so I want to get my equipment in order before the new year.

Thanks for your time,

Joshua

why do you describe the person who fitted them or had them fitted with apollo's an idiot? Thats pretty disrespectful to the seller.

...and the Apollo's were a pretty good shaft.

fine they were an intelligent person with the greatest feel in the world that i can never match so i need to downgrade from the apollo shafts...

Now that that's cleared up...

Hi Joshua,

Grum is right on! although KBS's will "measure" a little firmer, a S-Flex KBS Tour will 'play" similar to the S300. The weight distribution in the KBS just makes it frequency a little stronger.

To get more specific, we would need to know if the NP-1's are taper or parallel. If you visit a KBS Fitter, they have a cool fitting software package that allows them to manipulate launch conditions and flex and takes into account everything from insertion depth to intended flex, launch, length, etc to get perfect tipping... but this is for the parallel tip version.

Good luck,

gbr

they are .370 so that means it is parallel right?

well mr Philbeck, the video post has inspired me to comment. find someone you can work with in the flesh. your move is very good as i am sure you know. buying the kbs in whatever flex is only the start. your line of requests will determine your overall results. firstly you must learn to ask what you want and why, without any madness thrown in. learn to speak the language of custom fit and you will get exactly what you desire. you can strike it kid and unfortunately that makes you harder ,in some ways, to fit.

ps. take your time on this one .

I was in the same boat as you trying to figure out where to go with the KBS and to make things worse the ones for the Naks the .370 shafts have to be tip trimmed to get the flax you want.  I would go with the 133 gram shafts to start with and cut one to the specs for between 6.0 - 6.5.  Try it in your six iron and see how you like it.  If it's too whippy you can trim it some more and put it in your 7.
