Heavy "Stiff" or Light "X-Stiff" shaft???

Hi all,

I'm swinging at 108-112mph.

My good drives are about 280 yards dead straight.

My extremely good drives goes 300 yards (not so often!)

My average would go around 260 yards.

I'm gaming MP-600 9.5* with GD Tour AD PT-6 X-Stiff. I'm getting virtually no roll, which is why i'm changing a shaft.

I am a generally strong person as I do weight training and cardio work out. I don't have problems walking 36 holes and even happier to play 45 holes if time allows.

My question is should i go for

Heavy "Stiff" Shaft: perhaps 75 - 85 grams

or

Light "X-Stiff" shaft: perhaps 65 grams

The goal is to reduce back spin, sometimes the ball just balloons when i go after it.

I play DG X100 in my irons.

Thanks

Dude, just LISTENING to you talk about walking 45 holes made me tired!  Have you tried the Whiteboard?  They do come in 63, 73, 83 gram weights.  They are definitely low-spin if you load it up and let the shaft do the work.  I hear the new Axiv Core Tour Red or Black are supposed to be stout and lowspin as well.

Im not an expert on whether or not the heavier shaft reduces spin, so I cant definitively give a nod either way.  I personally see a difference in spin based on the WAY I go after it.  A big muscle swing, with light hands, gives me more rollout than just a hard, sergio lag with a power-release.  The amount of hands makes a difference.  The whiteboard is one of the few shafts Ive hit that take it either way and still performs well.

I heard a lot about Whiteboard that it reduces spin.

Also on my list are Rombax Z, Grafalloy Axis, GD Throttle, Aldila Voodoo.

But i don't know which weight and flex should i go for?

My swing style:

Flat swing plane.

I have pretty good lag with my wrist.

I'm training with Tour Tempo 21/7 but actual on-course swing clocks at 31/8. with elapse time from take away to impact 1.17-1.23 Seconds.

My launch angle is 11 Degrees.

Any suggestions on weight and flex?

Your guess is as good as mine! :)  Actually isnt 11* a pretty low or optimal launch angle?  If you want to bring it up a lil BUT still reduce spin, then I would suggest Fubuki.  It's supposed to have the mid launch of a Blueboard but the low spin on the whiteboard.

Since youre a flat swinger, I ASSUME you like to turn it over and draw, so dont tip it.  Im PRETTY sure the WB or Fubuki will spin less than those others on your list, but trial and error is part of the fun.  Expensive but part of the fun nonetheless.  Maybe hit the middle weight, 73g S flex.  That way you dont have to "work" to turn it over and you can always tip it if you need a lil more stiffness.

Shaft weight is a uniquely personal preference and doesn't affect spin. There's no predictability, per se --- sometimes a little guy does better with an 80 gram shaft/sometimes a big strong guy gets better results with a 60 gram.

I'd suggest X-Stiff.

As for spin, it's best to get real numbers from a Trackman than to spend your hard-earned money on an guess-timate.

Other than a whiteboard, what about a ProtoPype? Very stout and can be had for around $100. Then just tee it up a little to launch it higher  .
I tried the ProtoPype and didnt find it to be very stout.  Anyone that says it spins less the the WhiteBoard is in imagination land. :)  Well, atleast from MY experience.  I did not hook it up to fancy monitors to validate this.  Now the VooDoo XPP8 may be a COMPLETELY different story......

xdv6 VOODOO could be the ticket for you.
